Sweet-P
MemberHi,
Two questions about Standby (sleep) mode:
1. Does putting the computer to sleep several times a day cause any associated extra wear on the computer? Is this something okay or not advisable to do often?
2. If I put my computer in standby for a long period of time (i.e. overnight) how much drain would that be on the battery? What would be the recommended length of time to leave it sleeping?
Thanks you great people! 🙂

MemberNo extra wear, don’t worry.
It drains more energy cause the led is flashing 😀December 28, 2008 at 8:20 am #177616PanMan
MemberIf you’re running XP then after Sammy has been sleeping for about 15 minutes she wakes up to go into hibernate (which doesn’t use battery power), Vista doesn’t seem to do this & just stays in Sleep mode.
As for life I used mine the other day from 09:00 untill 00:30 completely untethered from the mains and just shutting the lid when not in use. 30 mins here , hour there usage throughout the day and the battery still had a touch of life left when I went to bed and fed her

Hmm I didn’t know it did that. It could explain the two occassions where I closed the lid only to find it still running. It was in a bag so the machine got rather toasty; hopefully no dmg done. Either it didn’t go to sleep when closed (I’ve been checking now to make sure LED’s turn off) or it woke up & couldn’t properly hibernate again staying on.

This is not unique to the Samsung. I’ve seen similar performance on other XP laptops over the years. It’s one reason I prefer to go directly to hibernation. With a 7200 rpm drive it doesn’t take appreciably longer than sleep.
