MemberShould I run add/remove first and then download and run MCPR or just run MCPR? Do I have to make sure the anti-virus software is shutdown first or will it clobber whatever crap is running?

MemberMy understanding is that you do not have to stop nor remove McAfee from your computer before using MCPR. You may find these instructions useful. To quote:
“Using McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool
-
Double click the MCPR.exe
-
A Command Line window will be displayed, and then close automatically
-
Wait for a second Command Line window to be displayed. Note: Do not double-click MCPR.exe again, you may have to wait up to 1 minute for the next window to appear.
-
After the second window appears, the program will begin the cleanup
-
Observe the installation, which could take several minutes
-
The following message will be displayed in the Command Line window:
-
The machine must reboot to complete the un-installation. Reboot now? [y.n]
-
Press Y on the keyboard
-
Wait for the computer to restart
-
All McAfee products are now removed from your computer”

MemberThanks for that TC – I am actually about to do the removal on mine as my trial ran out last week! Am I one of the first to expire?!

MemberI think most of the people who frequent this site removed it well before the trial expired.

MemberI removed it as soon as I turned it on (First port of call really), but didn’t know about this tool.
I’ve used it now, thanks!

[/quote1236183862]Hi Jez,
I removed the Mcafee anti virus but am still using the firewall. The program has long expired (I got mine early Nov) but nothing happens. So really, what happens when the program expires? Is the firewall part supposed to work forever?March 4, 2009 at 4:46 pm #184174jez
MemberNot sure PMCC. I would guess that it would still work but it just won’t be updated so you risk running out of date and insecure software.
I removed mine with no probs and am now Avast powered.

MemberThanks Jez.
I am also using Avast, but I also need a software firewall because I use shared internet. I am not getting any massage saying that the program has expired (does the firewall need any updating?). Should I remove the entire program and install, say, Zone Alarm?
TIA.March 4, 2009 at 9:19 pm #184183Den Deze

[/quote1236201508]Same here, after a few installs + reboots I used the .exe to get rid of the software 🙂
Nice tool 🙂March 4, 2009 at 10:58 pm #184175Ysabel
MemberPMCC – if you need a firewall, go for Comodo. Install only the firewall bit and not the rest.

Member+1 for Comodo firewall – Im running it on my sammy and it is fine (and I run it on my desktop so I am used to using it). I thought Zonealarm went down hill a bit over the last couple of years. I stopped using it a while ago because of increasing instability and conflicts with other programs. Never had a problem with Comodo.

[/quote1236867194]Cool. Any idea about how much resources Comodo uses? It doesn’t seem to be the fastest program out there.
