MemberI’ve been playing on the closed beta for a little over 2 weeks now and it is certainly playable. I’ve been able to adjust everything down to the bare minimum (which requires entering specific settings into the command console) to average about 30-35 fps.
Not great, but certainly playable. I’ll keep plugging away at trying to get a better fps and post any tips here if they seem to help.

MemberThe game runs really well on my machine. I don’t even have to turn all of the graphics settings down. Levels load quickly etc.
It’s all very fun! I just hope it stays free.
Hit me up in the game sometime. My username is Hell_Frog.

MemberJust tried it on my desktop pc, plays very well, as good as it did all those years ago BUT (there’s always a but) i realise i’m a UT/COD player at heart, will try it again but don’t think it’ll grow on me :-s

MemberQuakelive runs flawless if all settings are adjusted to low. Just hope the queueing will be abolished soon.

MemberEh? I had the settings up high and it was still running just fine!

MemberAnyone claimng that it runs great on anything less than minimum setting has clearly not put any real time into this game! Sure it runs great in the 1st 1 v 1 bot match and even DM with a few players but throw 8 players at it online and it is not playable! Any one who plays quake knows that sub 30 FPS is a game killer! It does run well tho and still looks fine on the tiny screen! Resolution to 640 X 480 and low textures is the most important settings!

[/quote1236111191]What kind of fps are you getting. I’ve changed most of my settings to as low as possible with the exception of the resolution at full screen (running it at 1024×600).
Most of my changes, to help out the fps, at the cost of image quality (which can be display by typing in “com_drawfps 1” in the console) are the following:
cg_noprojectiletrail 1
cg_truelightning 1
r_dynamiclight “0”
com_hunkmegs 128
r_picmip 8Image looks truly horrible, but to play quake reasonably competitive you’d want to go with some of the lowest settings anyway.

[/quote1236116747]Erm, I’ve played several matches online and its smooth enough to play just fine.

MemberPeople have very different definitions of “playable” so it’s a debate that often goes nowhere fast!
Personally I wouldn’t accept a lower frame rate but then I find the NC10’s screen too small to play on “competitively” anyway so it’s kinda irrelevent for me. Other people may have a great blast with those settings and why shouldn’t they 🙂
My favourite thread on the Epic Unreal forum was a 200 page debate on whether anyone could tell the difference between 60 fps and 85fps. It was a classic Internet flame war where the only thing achieved was to make those involved look like idiots for wasting so much time on something so trivial!
