Is anyone else having problems after updating WMP 9 to version 11?
It was working fine with version 9, but after upgrading and installing version 11, it seems to be crashing alot. Is there any kind of issues with the netbook and that particular version? Also, is there any way to go back to WMP 9?
Thanks.
December 29, 2008 at 12:34 am #177703kirkukMemberI upped to wmp11 with no probs. I did install the XP codec pack to get all the codecs I neded so you could try this to see if it helps.

December 29, 2008 at 1:45 pm #177702jezMemberI have to admit that it runs fine here too. Would a system restore roll back the install of WMP11? Or there is always the Samsung backup recovery software but if you haven’t made a backup since you first set the machine up then that might be a long way to roll back!
December 30, 2008 at 12:13 am #177705s162000MemberI’ve not had any problems with WMP 11 crashing but I don’t use it much anyway as it’s all style and no trousers. I use Mediamonkey for music and synching my MP3 player and VLC for playing videos.

Media Center is much more of an upgrade but that requires vista (I assume)

I want to play movie clips from my digital camera (which are .MOV files) on WMP, but found that WMP 9 would not do so. I have upgraded to WMP 11 and installed the XP codec, but still cannot play .MOV files. The audio part of the file plays, but no video. I know that I could install Quick Time to play them, but would rather have just one media player installed. Anyone any ideas, please?

January 6, 2009 at 9:04 pm #177715hufnMemberVLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/) is a great option. My fried swears by Gom (http://www.gomlab.com/) which also works well. I’ve been ok with media player on many different video files, but it’s far from perfect. As for an mp3 player, I really dislike it. Personally I use winamp, but just don’t install all the crap it want’s to go with it 😉
January 7, 2009 at 6:29 am #177713pat-wMemberAnother vote for GOM ( http://www.gomlab.com ) from me.
I couldn’t get VLC to bookmark video files, found GOM & it works just as I wanted it to.
It also plays audio files if you only want one playerJanuary 7, 2009 at 9:01 pm #177709chris_bMemberThanks guys for the info. I’ve installed the GOM player and confirmed that MOV files are checked in the file list. When I select a MOV file to play, it fires up and the audio plays fine but the video shows the initial frame which stays as a still picture. I’ve tried going through all the settings but cannot get it to play as a video. I can move to another part of the file by using the forward or backward buttons, but get a still picture as before, with audio normal. It looks to be a good simple media player, if only I could get the video to work properly. Help, please!!!
If all else fails, it’s uninstall and over to Quick Time.Chris B

January 7, 2009 at 10:26 pm #177714pat-wMemberI don’t know if this will work, but its worth a try.
Open the folder where the MOV files are.
Right click any of the MOV’s, & click properties
Where is says “Open With:” in the general tab, make sure its the GOM player.
If not, click change, go to program files & click GOM playerSorry if you knew all of that, but worth a try if you didn’t
Hope you can get it to work for you -
