My mate bought a new NC10 after seeing mine and when it arrived wanted to image the drive as-is before sysprep kicked in to personalise it.
Strangely the imaging software didnt detect any drives, so when we looked in the BIOS, it clearly showed Master IDE Channel 0: N/A whereas on mine, it showed an Hitachi…
As you can imagine, he returned it and got aggro from the advisor he spoke to accusing him of breaking it.
I wonder if this is a poor unfortunate isolated incident from factory but interesting to see where else it may crop up next.
From user reports in the forum it seems that most people have been OK with their new NC10. There is one report of a dead battery and a few teething troubles with WiFi but on the whole I don’t see any common trends. Most people have had a positive experience.
Did your friend get a replacement OK in the end?
He just asked for a refund as he was not impressed by company’s attitude. Not sure if he went to a different company for it in the end… Would have been curious to see if this was isolated or not…
What imaging software was he using?
