I think I’m going to follow the “don’t sweat it” advice and delete the Battery Bar, or maybe keep it, and sneak up on it now and again!
[/quote1228128278]Yeah I’ve decided not to worry. If this machine is a big success (and it seems already so) then spare batteries will be around at a good price! If you spend all your time worrying about using it then using it becomes less fun 🙁
December 1, 2008 at 10:52 am #172321hefMemberthat’s one thing i noticed is there doesn’t appear to be any spare/extra batteries on sale anywhere…
anyone seen or heard anything about them?
December 1, 2008 at 1:10 pm #172352JeffTMemberMy battery failed completely in 5 days.

[/quote1228137641]There is none about yet, but the MSI Wind took a little while before you could buy batteries for them. So i suppose the NC10 will take a little while too.

[/quote1228138551]eek! Did they replace it under warranty? Or send it back to the supplier? That’s not a great experience.

[/quote1228139693]I sent the complete NC10 back to play.com for replacement as the failure may have been related to the charging circuit. I was not very pleased having waited weeks to get it and spending a couple of evenings installing software and downloading updates.

[/quote1228147272]dang man, that is a major disaster.
on the plus sinde though, this is the closest thing i have heard of yet to a DOA incident.what do you guys think the likelyhood will be of us seeing 9 cells in a forthcoming battery upgrade?
that would be intense.December 2, 2008 at 10:51 am #172326wsmaalMember[quote1228214495=lozza69er]
Had mine for a month and it is on 5.9%.
[/quote1228214495]After 3 weeks 6%. After calibrating the battery via the BIOS (this night), the battery wear is now 4%. Strange, because after purchase I have fully charge/discharge the battery 3 times..

I would have liked if the NC10 was made slightly longer to accommodate a 9 cell battery, without making the back of the NC10 unsightly, as the touchpad could also be made larger due to this increase. I am unaware as to how big a 9 cell battery would be; possibly 0.5 or 0.75 of an inch bigger than the 6 cell? I don’t think many of us would argue in this slight increase of the NC10 in only 1 dimension i.e. length, if the NC10 could then accommodate a 9 cell battery without it being a visual eyesore.I would say a 9 cell battery could easily be made available in Spring/Summer 09. I would also say that Samsung will start pumping out accessories, new iterations of the NC10 and successors too next year. Their burgeoning market share within Europe is increasing exponentially, due in large part to its LCD TV range, and the success of the NC10 will only cement this fact, enabling Samsung to release new and better products sooner than usual as a result.
December 2, 2008 at 11:45 am #172308FreddyMemberNowadays with these kinds of batteries in laptops you should try to avoid fully discharging the battery, it is better to charge it more frequently and try to not run down to zero. This is what I’ve read, correct me if I’m wrong.

To get full battery capacity you must fully charge/discharge (via the NC10 of course) the first few times..
December 2, 2008 at 1:26 pm #172354JeffTMemberPlay are telling me they won’t send out a replacement until they have tested mine and that will not be until at least Thursday. They have stock at the moment but the way things are they could be out of stock again by then. So having pre-ordered weeks ago and been sent a duff one it will be at least 3 weeks from receiving it to get a replacement, possibly longer.
December 2, 2008 at 1:43 pm #172309FreddyMemberI’m really feeling for you. If I were you I would send an e-mail to Play and ask them to reserve an NC10 for you and tell them that you will send your NC10 to them directly (after receiving) RMA-number as a DOA.
Ask them to please test your computer as soon as possible and send a replacement.[quote1228225322=JeffT]

[/quote1228225322]December 2, 2008 at 2:55 pm #172355JeffTMemberI rang Samsung today and spoke to Dean in Senior Customer Services to lodge a complaint regarding the battery. What a waste of a customer service desk. His lack of interest and authority and refusal to pass me to a Manager (he was the highest customer services person available by telephone)convinced me that I would be better off ringing play and asking for a refund. The best he could do was to make a note on my file. If that is Samsung customer service they can stuff their netbooks where the sun don’t shine. I went with Samsung due to their perceived quality and was let down badly in a very short time.

Are you sure about this? I’ve heard it many times, but searching around on the net I came to the same conclusion as Freddy.
The point of the first full discharge seems to be to calibrate the “gauge”.
By the way, how do you check the result of polls without voting?
