^^^^^ Windows 7 seems to be in twice, please use the TOP one
Hello
My new NC10 is expected to arrive tomorrow and am wondering what OS runs the quickest on the NC10.
Please only vote XP if you have seen yourself its faster than Vista and/or Windows 7.
Thanks
January 29, 2009 at 6:03 pm #181804AlfiharParticipantWell I choose BeOS Haiku that was blazing fast, oh wait… ok maybe Gentoo, nope… Fedora ah… :p
Ok, on a more serious note, I would say Windows XP SP3 felt a bit faster than Vista to me, which although it ran well (a lot better than I was expecting) did feel a bit sluggish at times. I haven’t tried Windows 7 so I can’t comment on that though.

January 29, 2009 at 6:11 pm #181805AlfiharParticipantXP SP3 with 1GB RAM (or 2GB) felt faster that Vista SP1 with 2GB RAM, it was more a limitation of the processor and disk, than the amount of RAM available as far as I’m aware.
January 29, 2009 at 6:14 pm #181822jazz639MemberOn my desktop, fair enough its a Core 2 Duo but Vista feels quicker. Opening IE is basically instant whereas I found XP to get slower as the time went on.

Voted for Win7 have 2 GB 🙂January 29, 2009 at 6:43 pm #181823jazz639MemberThanks, can a mod or admin change the poll from cookie to IP address or usename? It’s asking me to vote again and I dont want to sway the results so right now I can’t see the results!
and TCMuffin, I’m sure its been asked loads of times but to get the dual book with XP and Windows 7, did u install XP first then install Windows 7, letting it create the boot selector?
January 29, 2009 at 7:25 pm #181808baldrickMemberI voted xp over windows 7 using 1gb ram. it was close I like windows 7 but video playback seems a bit juddery at times
January 29, 2009 at 8:01 pm #181824jazz639Memberbaldrick: what os have you settled on? Im so used to Vista on my desktop and laptop that I really prefer the “look and feel” of it over XP. If Windows 7 is just behind in speed, I could probably live with that
January 29, 2009 at 8:29 pm #181807Curly99MemberAnother vote for Windows 7 here with 2GB ram 🙂

January 30, 2009 at 9:13 pm #181809baldrickMemberHi Jazz. I must admit that I usually boot to win7 on my sammy, as like you I really like the look and feel of it. I still think xp has the edge on stability and speed so will not be getting rid just yet. I’ve also installed it on my dual core vaio and it out performs vista by quite a margin, once the retail version comes out i’ll be saying goodbye to vista for ever and possibly XP
January 31, 2009 at 6:59 am #181817emeowwwMemberI tried XP and 7 Beta with both 1GB and 2GB RAM
I can conclude XP is faster than 7 when compared with same memory (1GB or 2GB)
There is no difference in XP or 7 on 1GB or 2GB if you use it for Office/net surfing, but 2GB is faster if you use memory intensive apps, e.g. Photoshop. Hence XP on 1GB is still faster than 7 on 2GB if you don’t Photoshop etc.
I agree with the above – bottlenecks are processor, bus speed and of course your hard disk
January 31, 2009 at 3:39 pm #181826econ0013MemberI have to say there is a massive difference between XP home (which it comes with) and XP professional which I put on. I ssupect not having this option on your poll gives you misleading data/results. Also XP’s speed is greatly altered by switching off and getting rid of some of the bloatware e.g. MS system restore, the (appalling) Mc afeee.
XP Pro tweaked is seriously fastFebruary 1, 2009 at 5:16 am #181818summertanMemberI personally stay with XP because the free programs I have the habit to install will never have issues with it. The same doesn’t apply to Vista or Win7.
