MemberThis kinda sucks:P…i’ve been looking at the NC10 for about 3 weeks now, and I was just about set on buying one, until this new special edition rocked up on amazon.com…which complicated things for me!
So, basically, what to do here is my question to you (I am in Australia, have converted to pounds and usd for your convenience);
I either;
Order the current model NC10 from the UK for 288 pounds delivered (about 425usd or 650aud)
Order the current model NC10 from the US (keyboard layout i’m used to) for 334 pounds (about $500usd or 750aud)
Order the new model NC10 from the US (keyboard layout i’m used to, +trackpad, +bigger battery) for 380 pounds (about $560us or 840aud)So thats about $100aud, 46 pound or 75us difference for the privilege of the US keyboard (something i’m not particularly willing to pay) or about 200aud, 100 pound or 140us for the better battery, better keyboard, and larger touchpad (but with no definite delivery time/date).
What to do, what to do…anyone have any advice? Its really driving me nuts!
Thanks guys, I appreciate all the help
Rhys, Australia.

MemberI thought maybe the special edition would have 2GB ram already installed. Instead it has a new larger touchpad. That’s a pretty major change! and it addresses one of the most common complaints. It would be nice if there was closeup of the new touchpad.

MemberThe glossy screen of the special edition will be much more difficult to see in your warm, bright Australian sunshine !lol

MemberHi I’m from Australia too :). It’s a shame Samsung doesn’t export this excellent netbook down under.
Agreed with above – I suggest you should look at a few glossy screens under the sun to see if it will bother you.
The UK keyboard may not be an issue – you can change keyboard layout to US in Windows, and the ‘@’ sign will be where ‘2’ is (from memory, the @ key then becomes pound)
Also have a play with small vs larger trackpads on the smaller Eee (e.g. 700/900 series) and compare to Acer/Dell Mini etc and full size notebooks to get an idea which is more comfortable for you.
I advise you to buy on what suits you more, not necessarily just by the dollar tag. Don’t spend on something you will feel you will regret in the future. On the other hand, I personally think AUD$850 is becoming too pricey for a low-power netbook.

Memberi’ve had several glossy screen laptop and I had no problem with glaring. If I did have glaring, tilting the screen up or down a little was enough to get rid of the glare.
matte finish of my nc10 doesn’t look as nice as glossy one, but I am liking it.

I’ll also be interested in seeing how you get on. I feel a mini-review with pictures is coming; no pressure. 😉February 12, 2009 at 4:42 pm #183256Rhys_AUS

MemberSo I got my NC10 today (2 days earlier than expected…i was asleep when FedEx came by, so I went over to their depot (i was desperate!) to pick it up).
Oh. My. God.
I’m in love!
Its awesome, and I honestly can’t pick a thing wrong with it – I don’t even find the touchpad that small at all!
Soo happy with the purchase, anyone weighing up the pro’s and cons, just buy it, I guarentee you will not be disappointed!
EDIT: I swear I saw a post on here about battery life and how to preserve the battery etc – can anyone point it out for me please?
Thanks,
Rhys
