MemberI know this is bound to happen with any keyboard, and I’m not complaining, but I’ve noticed that after less than three days of use, some of my keys are already wearing a little smooth. There’s a patch on my Shift key, for example, that’s significantly smoother than the rest of the key.
Anybody else noticing this, and if so, after how much use?

Memberdepends on how much you sweat (srsly).
you see the same thing on guitar fretboards.December 4, 2008 at 7:33 pm #173805Becky
MemberPristine here, I don’t think I’ve ever worn down the lettering on a keyboard. Then again, I’m very fussy about having clean hands. 😀

MemberI’ve been using mine for 1 day – admittedly spent the whole day writing several documents on it and i can see smoothing on the keys: i certainly don’t have sweaty hands!!!
I’ll give the keys a clean later and see if they are restored to their former glory.
(I stupidly voted before i checked the keys in detail . . .)

Memberand actually now that i’m looking at it in detail the left front corner is looking markedly smoothed over as i rest my hand on it while i type . . . hmmmm

MemberWill it depend on colour a bit more too?

MemberI put it down to use. You can either put it on the table and admire it or use it.
My previous laptop went through two keyboards, I didn’t wear the letters off the keys it was just some stopped working.
At £300 a time versus £1500 I can live with whatever the NC10 throws at me.

[/quote1228428336]That’s very similar to my view. I have a lot lower expectations from a £300 machine which is why I guess I am continually pleasantly surprised when it delivers.
Keyboard wear? None that I can see – but I haven’t typed out any novels on it so that’s really no indication of hardiness.

Memberthe wear you guys are seeing may be down to this whole “silver nano” shens.
i imagine that gunk will wear off pretty rapid.December 5, 2008 at 8:56 am #173802Galego
MemberAlmost about one monht here and no sings of wear yet. I have the black color, not too sure if the black keyboard may help!

MemberI’ve had my white NC10 for one month and my spacebar has a slight smooth patch where my right thumb hits it. You only see it if the light is hitting it in the right way.
I do get sweaty hands, if that makes a difference. And I use handcream. And I’ve written up a fair few essays and lecture notes already!
