I’d purchased a Pinnacle PCTV HD Pro USB for use with my former laptop. It’s a digital TV tuner, video recorder, etc. Last night I tried it out with the NC10.
After installing the software, I plugged it in to the farther away USB port on the left. Windows promptly warned me that this was a hi-speed device plugged into a low-speed port and I should move it to a port shared with the internal webcam. Moving the PCTV to the closer left USB port made it happy. I didn’t try the right-side one as I had a mouse plugged in there, but since the mouse wasn’t listed with the webcam I expect you’d get the same complaint.
Once the channel scan was finished, I pulled up the TV viewing program and started switching around. Inside the house, Analog TV came in staticy with the included antenna. When I switched to digital TV I got a warning that my machine was too slow to decode the signal in real-time. Despite this, it seemed to work just fine: the NC10 seemed to be keeping up fine, picture came in clear without dropped frames, sound was good, and so on. S-Video input also worked well.
So overall, I’d have to say that it was a successful experiment. When I get a chance I’ll try recording and see which, if any, signal sources the NC10 can handle.

This is something that I keep meaning to try too, a cheapish way to get a portable telly and potential HD recorder :)!

IIRC, the Device Manager shows one USB2 controller (which includes the webcam) and a bunch of USB ones (which includes the Bluetooth, among other things). The thing I thought was weird is that I’ve never gotten this error for my external hard drive or DVD drive, both of which I thought I’d plugged into the plug that gave me the warning. I’ve gotten that warning from other machines with the hard drive.

I have the Pinnical nano usb tv stick. which is superpose to be for poor signal areas / on the move. i get great pictures with the home arial but nothing with the supplied portable! this should change in December when they turn DVB-T on fully.

FWIW, I didn’t buy it for the TV function; I bought it for portable video in. I only tried the TV because it was there.July 15, 2009 at 11:19 pm #182492PaulPooleMemberBe useful to know what area posters are in, even what country. 🙂
