I just got my netbook today, wow I love it already!!
I downloaded ThinkFree office and tried to open a word document into it. When doubleclicking on the document in, say, my documents I get an error box that says ‘.doc is not a valid Win32 application’. However when I open ThinkFree and open the document through by clicking ‘open’ and browsing to the file it will open fine.
I downoaded OpenOffice too and it does the same with that. It’s quite annoying- anyone know any reason for this and if I can do anything about it?
Right click on the .doc file (any .doc file) while holding down shift key.
Select “Open with…”
“Choose Program…” and look up the ThinkFree office program that you use for word processing and select it.
Select “Always use the selected program to open this kind of file”
Then try double-clicking a .doc file in explorer again.
I did try that but I pointed it to the wrong file.. tried it again as you suggested and realised I was using the icon on desktop, not the original, which seemed to confuse it. anyway, sorted now, thank you!
Another Thinkfree question: I’ve downloaded the free trial version and love it, but I recall seeing somewhere in these forums a mention of how to get a full, free version. I just can’t find those instructions. I think we have to request a serial number or something. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance,
Have a look at my sticky thread (the very top of the Applications Forum on this site).
I’ve just had a quick look at their website and it doesn’t look like they’re offering it for free anymore. Previously you had to download the free trial and fill in a feedback survey and they would send a free serial key (to remove the trial’s time restriction) within 3 weeks. I had to email them prompting for the serial key after the third week passed and they sent the key to me immediately.
It might be worth asking them via an email whether they would offer you a free key but otherwise I can’t see it on their site anymore sadly…
