MemberFirst of all a big hello to all members, Nice little forum going here,
I am looking for a cheap small XP machine to run Office acounting Proffesional 2008 and to wiew a few JPG Maps.
Heres my worries,
After looking at the reviews of the NC10, I think it may suit my needs but I am a bit worried as I do not want to spend approx £330 plus memory upgraded incase it does not do what want it to do.
The Express Edition of the Software is free if anyone needed to try an accounting software package. Let me know how it runs if you run it on the NC10. Also if you do download the software it comes in UK and USA versions.
Hope someone can help, Thanks in advance

Memberinteresting product, I might well check out the Express edition. The immediate concern is the vertical screen resolution requirement which is listed as higher than the NC10s cabability but it might not be a show stopper.
Is this useful for someone like me that wants to keep accounts of this website? My affairs are very simple – outgoings are web hosting and income comes from various affiliate networks.
I’m currently just writing things into Excel!

MemberIf you cant find the answer to this I have an MS Technet subscription so I can download the full product and test it on my NC10.
Might take me a few days to get round to it though.

It’s got to be simple for me to use it. Worth downloading the Express edition and play around with it. Can connect to paypal accounts if your trading over the internet and there is a few tutorials on the MS site that will show you how to set the system up.
I started of with the Express Edition but for £70+ depending on where you buy it, the Proffesional edition offers more.

Any help much appreciated.

MemberOK good news and bad news! The good news – it installs and runs. The bad news – the vertical screen minimium requirement means that you can’t see the bottom of the app. So this may make it impossible to use if buttons are hidden off screen.
There are some threads on resolution work arounds so maybe there is something you can do? I guess the alternative is the NC20 with its (and please check this!) 1280×800 resolution.
PS. I have now removed it – which in hindsight was a bit premature because now I can’t check out any further queries on it.

Some users have managed to run Adobe programs using “the uncheck ‘Hide modes that this monitor cannot display’ method”. Presumably this would work with Office Accounting?February 26, 2009 at 1:54 pm #184909jez
MemberSounds like it, I’ll have a look – I’ll add that to the FAQ.
I spose I should reinstall and test it lol. I’ll see if I have time tonight ;)! This does mean OP will have to buy through this site :P!

MemberI am using this on my NC10. The vertical resolution is a bit of a pain but I don’t use it excessively and so far have been living with it. I do auto hide my task bar, which gives me a little more space. The main problem is with the express version (this is what I use) as it has ads alone the bottom of the screen that take up valuable space.
If you have a wide screen laptop you should be able to set the screen resolution to 1024×600 if you did this you could try the application at this resolution your self and see what you think.
In terms of speed the NC10 is more than fast enough. I am also running Visual studio 2005, 2008 and sql server 2008, office 2003, adobe photoshop and a whole load of other stuff. Actually for me he NC10 is faster than my old laptop.
