MemberHi all, I have at last found a use for an old copy of Office97 and it runs like a dream. All you could ever want and it takes up a massive 63Mb. The good thing is that it is compatible with everything at work.
Give it a try, I dont remember it running this well when I got it new………..

MemberDon’t worry about the dbl post – I’ve locked the other!
I have still yet to install an office suite on mine! I really should just go and bung one on. I have the choice between Office 2000 and the newer 2007 which I got through thte MS work at home licensing scheme. Worth investigating as your work license may entitle you to a “free” install. I say free, but you still have to pay MS about £17 for the DVD but that is to cover the optical media and delivery.
afaik 2007 works pretty smoothly too but I bet the install is much bigger! And then there is a whole thread on alternatives…

MemberI’m almost tempted to load up my old DOS version of MS Word. Maybe even try out DR-DOS. Now where did I put my USB 3.5in floppy drive?

[/quote1229455962]I am in the exact same boat. I would be curious to hear what you decide to install.
I am still setting up my machine so office type software will not be installed for a couple of days. I bought a blue unit on December 3 after lurking here and at other forums, but I did not open up my box until last night. The potential screen blotch issue had me a bit worried, but keeping it in the box was not going to let me know if I had the issue or not. But, I do not want to get OT, so keep us posted as to your decision.
And keep up the good work with the fourm. Friendly forums are hard to find, and need to be supported.
Thanks,
–Ken

Membernewst – Toshiba DOS 3.3 for me thank you very much 🙂 With WordStar even…
Actually, Office 2007 runs perfectly fine on this. Sure, it’s a bit bigger, but c’mon, it’s got a 160GB HD. My last laptop (which was my primary computer) had only 60, adn my desktop 80. How much do you need on a netbook? 🙂

MemberI have an OfficeXP disk lying around that I’ll try later. Has done me fine on my main PC for years and takes up around 100MB.

MemberI realize that the newer versions obviously take up more space, but do the newer versions, like in Office 2007, require more memory to operate? I have copies of Office 97, 2000 and 2007 that I can install. I am not worried about space, but memory is certainly an issue. I primarily use Word and Excel, but One Note has some appeal. Any thoughts?
