do you still have mcafee. when i first put it on i also ran mcafee quick clean, there were 16 items that were in the register key, that shouldn’t have been there. they were removed. i was puzzled why they were there. i would run that. but first in internet explorer clean out your cash you history everything. empty that totally. go into tools section in IE to do that. then run quick clean in mcafee. also run the samsung magic doctor. after you run quick clean, you have to reboot. i can not think of any thing else. maybe some one else has an idea.
February 25, 2009 at 3:58 am #184846tikkalaleeMemberjust thought of some thing, you can not bring up the youtube home page at all, or is it that you can not load the videos. i had to upgrade my flash program to view the videos on you tube, if i didn’t i would not be able to play the videos.
February 25, 2009 at 8:15 am #184851Don_AudioMemberJust 2 more things to check out:
1. Is this a pure home network setup or is your router utilizing a university / company gateway to connect to the internet?
2. Please go to:
C:WINDOWSsystem32driversetc
And open the “HOSTS” file with notepad.
Copy the content to your next post.
February 25, 2009 at 6:53 pm #184861Taz307MemberHi, thank you for your responses, i will run a another full scan with mcafee and samsung doctor, as for the youtube page it does not load at all. I do have realplayer installed for videos.
The important thing to remember is, i can connect to any website that includes ebay and youtube via a wired connection through my home router.
I am only having problems with ebay and youtube via the wireless connection in the house.
I have updated the atheros driver to the latest one via samsung software on the sammy. Still no luck.
February 25, 2009 at 7:55 pm #184862Taz307MemberDon, this is the dump from the hosts file:
This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a ‘#’ symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host127.0.0.1 localhost
February 25, 2009 at 9:43 pm #184863Taz307MemberI have run mcafee virus scan nothing reported, it is clear, samsung magic doctor is also clear. None of these are reporting any problems, this still has not solved the problem for me yet. Anymore tips please, getting desperate to sort this out.

February 26, 2009 at 12:18 am #184847tikkalaleeMemberyou have the newest adobe flash right. i think ebay uses that also
February 26, 2009 at 12:33 am #184864Taz307MemberYes i have the latest flash player, the problems are only occuring through the wireless connection and not when wired to the router, this is really important.
As i dont have any problems getting onto ebay or youtube on the sammy when i have it directly connected to the router. Ebay and youtube dont load only when i am using the sammy wireless.
I must stress at this stage the it is not dropping the connection when wireless.

Ok, your HOSTS file looks fine.
So, its not a entry in your HOSTS file overwriting a DNS entry.
Back to speculation mode 😉
February 26, 2009 at 3:26 pm #184853AirwolfMemberFirst order of business with any computer should be to uninstall McAfee and turn off the Wndows firewall. Your router has a built in firewall and having more than one is just going to cause problems. Go get a good antivirus suite. McAfee is absolute garbage.
I highly suggest the AVG free edition

On the contrary I don’t think running more than one firewall causes a problem. The router provides a hardware firewall (examining data packets to determine their source and destination) whilst the Windows Firewall is software based (protects your computer from outside attempts to control or gain access your computer and also has user configurable options about which programs can have network access etc). For example, if your computer becomes infected with malware a software firewall may detect unauthorised network access by a program and stop it whereas a hardware firewall would not.Whilst turning off the Windows firewall temporarily may help rule out any software firewall interference I advise against leaving it switched off unless you choose to use a different software firewall.
It is also worth noting that AVG Free Edition does *not* include a software firewall. The free edition is only an anti-virus and anti-spyware.
February 28, 2009 at 1:31 am #184848tikkalaleeMemberIt is very important to have some kind of firewall on your machine. it is better to purchase one. i had tried the windows firewall on another machine, it stopped all internet traffic. i was not going to have to enter every site i approved of.
February 28, 2009 at 2:55 pm #184865Taz307MemberThank you for your responses, again i need to highlight that i dont think its the mcafee software or firewall issues, however i am more than game to removing it.
I dont have problems accessing ebay or youtube when i have a direct connection to the router, only whilst using wireless, this implies non firewall issues.
I will give it a try though, thank you.

February 28, 2009 at 4:33 pm #184840AlfiharParticipantI’ve been thinking about this since my last post a few days ago, I still can’t think what would be the cause of this problem.
1) Hardware, nope as you can visit other websites ok using wireless.
2) Web Browser (+flash etc…), nope as it works fine on the wired connection.
3) DNS, cleared the local cache and current DNS server works fine for wired, also the hosts file is fine.
4) Firewall, hmm unless it’s been specifically setup differently for the two connections I can’t see this being the issue especially as the port is open (other websites work) and the application has permission to communicate (other websites work).
Well that leaves us with a problem with Windows (maybe trojan, virus etc…) or the setup of the router.
If this was me I’d boot a live Linux distribution either from a usb memory stick or cd/dvd to rule out any issues with the network. As the issue only occurs on one interface it could indicate a network issue, but it’s not like any I’ve seen or heard of before. The websites which don’t work seem a bit too targeted, why is it popular sites like Ebay and YouTube… Maybe there is some malware which McAfee is missing. If you haven’t already it would be worth installing/running something like Spybot Search and Destroy.
Though at this point it may be worth backing up anything you want to keep and running a full system restore by pressing F4 at startup.
February 28, 2009 at 8:04 pm #184841ChrisMemberIs a strange one. Before complete restore it could be worth running a traceroute to the problem sites using wired and then wireless to see if any differences. Also, a network analyzer (packet sniffer) may highlight where issues occur.
