MemberHello all,
I have recently set up my NC-10, but made the error of making a 50/50 split when partitioning the disc. A couple of things I have to ask:
1) Are there any recommendations with regards to a decent portable CD/DVD (all formats) drive? Was looking at the LG GSA E50L. Good or not?
2) I want to repartition my disc, but am aware of the 6GB or so that’s hidden. I haven’t done this just before; how do I go about doing this? If anyone can do me a “walk-through” or something, I’d be ever so grateful. I am assuming that everything on the NC-10 “out the box” so to say are on the two discs provided, right?
3 Haven’t used partitioning software before, and don’t really want to use software I’m not familiar with; when repartitioning will the 6GB “hidden space” still be there?
4)And finally…I’m not quite clear how the NC-10 uses the D drive (hence my wanting to repartition to 44GB/100GB). WIll it back up to this drive or to the 6GB hidden space? I can understand the merits of having programmes on C and data on D. How do I do this?, eg if after I have installed MS Office 2007, when saving a document how do I get it to a my docos folder on D automatically?
Apologies for what may seem daft questions but as you can tell I’m new to this and quite apprehensive about jiggering about with stuff I have relatively little understanding of!
Many thanks for helping a novice!

I have the external DVD drive, as in my signature, you mention and it is great. Looks good, works well and compliments my black NC10 better than any of the other external DVD drives I’ve seen online.December 15, 2008 at 9:01 am #175802s162000
Member1: I think this is a nice DVD burner to go with the NC10: Samsung Slimline DVD writer
2. Personally I don’t need the backup partition and I find the split partitions annoying. So I partitioned my drive into one whole 160gb. I did this by using an external dvd drive and reinstalling a fresh XP from the supplied cd’s (If you’re not confident doing this then don’t!)
It’s a fairly simple process but I recommend you make a backup of your current NC10 state. This thread explains in detail how to do this: Making a DVD backup

MemberThat drive has got positive feedback from all users that I’ve spoken to. It’s in the site external drive accessories section.
You should be able to get it from the usual places, dabs.com, amazon.co.uk, etc in the UK or newegg, amazon.com, etc in the US.

MemberLook on the bright side – if you don’t have too much storage, there is nothing wrong 50/50 partition.
The two CDs that came in the box is not the same as the backup in the hidden partition.
If you mess things up and don’t have an external CD/DVD-ROM, you can just press F4 when booting up and it will restore you to the same position as Day 1when you had the Sammy.Having the D drive means you can store you data files there.
In Office 2007, you need to open up the individual programs and change the default path where they save the documents.December 15, 2008 at 5:33 pm #175801scientist
