MemberI must admit, this one is tempting:

However, I want to see what the price is for an 80GB SSD and the 6 cell battery with higher resolution. The review points out (correctly) that the NC10 is as good or better on critical features like keyboard and battery life. However, that case sure does look nice…

MemberHaving read a couple of reviews this morning, I think the feedback seems to be: looks nice, but the NC10 is still better.
I actually think it looks a bit like one of those “toy” kiddie netbooks!!

MemberIt’s a nice looking machine, but the fact that the 6-cell battery isn’t flush against the rest of the machine like the NC10 makes it unattractive and harder to deal with.

MemberDeal Killers on this HP:
the pathetic 6 cell battery sticking straight down doubles the thickness of the machine.. it would be awkward to fit most compact cases as well as into a bag or briefcase… they should have extended it in line with the machine straight out the back not straight down.
The weird location of the mouse buttons… having used laptops for years I think it would be difficult to get used to using that trackpad setup.
I tried out one of those keyboards and it was too flat and hard to touch type as i could not tell the edges of each key.. its like the samsung trackpad multiplied by all the keys of the keyboard
Last is that weird resolution of 576 vertical lines instead of 600. as netbook popularity grows, more apps will be designed to suport the standard 1024×600 resolution wihch may lead to issues down the lineJanuary 6, 2009 at 3:37 pm #178705Rsaeire
MemberIt has the specs that I would have preferred in the NC10, however, I doubt that HP will be able to balance all the updated specifications in its netbook and result in as pleasing a result as Samsung did with the NC10 and at a reasonable price. In saying that, the HP 2133 Mini-Note was and is a very good netbook, with the main downside being its VIA processor, so it wouldn’t be unheard of for HP to have a success with this netbook based on features alone.
In my opinion, the price and feature-set of the NC10 together is ideal. Increasing the specifications will mean increasing the price and with that, bringing the price into laptop regions; I could not bring myself to buy a 10.2†netbook that would be easily outperformed by a 15.4†laptop for the same, or similar, price.

I’m referring to everything bar battery life.January 6, 2009 at 4:43 pm #178715MattJessop
MemberEeek – mouse buttons on the sides of the trackpad – not good for me, I returned my Acer Aspire One for that very reason, I could just not get used to it.

MemberFYI, here is the link to the HP press release:

Anything else you read is likely speculation.

“Well we designed it around a 3 cell battery. But since the NC10 came out people are expecting 6 cell as standard. So…. seeing as we have to cram a 6 cell in now…..(damn you Samsung!!) ………we will turn it into a feature. It’s now a permanent stand!”
“It looks stupid”
“It looks stupid? I find your lack of faith disturbing……..”

Another HP Mini 2140 review:http://computershopper.com/laptops/reviews/hp-mini-2140
[/quote1231341481]8.6 I think they are getting too much advertising $$ from HP to give such a generous review,,, esp when they speak about the halo issues in displayed text and screwy resolution size. (the display and readability should be the major rating issue esp on small screens). that alone should limit it to no better than a 7 out of 10. The even say the display is sub-par when the same screens are displayed side by side with Samsung and Asus netbooks.
They mention a 6 cell battery but dont tell you how retarded it is doubling the thickness of the machine… barely over 2 hrs of battery life!! I can buy a full on laptop that gets over 2 hrs of battery life for the same money as this HP POS..

Memberthe accelerometer in this machine seems useful (so if you bump or drop it, the heads quickly park). is this a component that you can get as a feature on the haddrive itself, or does it need to be part of the motherboard?
can i upgrade my sammy’s HDD to one?

MemberThe only real benefits of this netbook are the higher screen resolution, not available on the model noted in all the reviews, and a 6-cell battery, which is $30 extra, raises the back of the netbook and makes it back heavy. Besides this, the notebook, as reviewed, suffers from a lower than standard resolution which causes blue halos.
Honestly, it really doesn’t compare well to the other great value and great featured netbooks currently available and would need to be comparably priced, which it won’t be with all the increased features, in order to compete.
