Question – does running “Sumsung Update Plus” from the desktop automatically update the relvant bios and drivers? It looks like that is what it was designed to do.
Also, how do you check which version of bios and drivers you are currently using? Thanks.

December 11, 2008 at 9:23 pm #172747TeutonJon78ParticipantUpdate Plus IS supposed to keep the samsung stuff up to date. But it doesn’t seem to work. I know for a fact that there are some updated versions on the website as compared to what shipped on the NC10, but it doesn’t pick them up.
December 12, 2008 at 6:53 pm #172728TheoMemberI emailed Samsung to ask what the Bios Update does

“The only change that we have been made aware of, is a change in the boot priority order. If there were any other changes, they may be changes that are not noticeable. We are trying to get the release notes posted on the website so we apologize for that not being there. Thank you and have a nice day.”
December 13, 2008 at 3:17 am #172743commoMemberJust updated my BIOS as well. Right away I noticed the fan noise. When I changed to “Silent Mode” the fan turned off right away. When I changed back to “Speed Mode” the fan would start to come on again. I think this update somehow pushes the CPU more which would explain the slightly higher performance numbers that people have been posting. This would in turn run the fan more to cool down the now faster/hotter running processor. That’s just my theory :p
December 13, 2008 at 3:35 am #172769roazzMemberAfter reading people opinions about the fan, it’s easy to think it’s more noisier, but after having it some days i just forgot another time that the fan is ON…
The new bios works well and i don’t feel it’s nothing worse than before 😛
December 13, 2008 at 7:52 am #172762SzabsMemberI think it’s some kinda paranoia as well 😀

December 15, 2008 at 4:46 pm #172766zwiebugMemberafter having run my nc10 all day now (vista sp1) i definitely hear the fan come up pretty much all the time (in normal mode, in silent mode, the fan is very calm). i think the fan is very noisy in normal mode, but i didn’t take notice if this has been not the case with the older bios version. is it possible to downgrad the bios to the older version? if the loud fan is due to the bios version i would definitely downgrade if possible

Run the 0.2 *.exe file
Open up the Temp directories and look for the Rom Image. Copy this file to another location.
Close that 0.2 exe and open the 0.3 update .exe.
Open the temp directory and replace the 0.3 ROM image with renamed 0.2 image and see if you can flash it.Probably won’t work, but might if you are lucky. Probably not though as I am thinking the program does some checksum stuff I would imagine.
December 17, 2008 at 7:00 pm #172754Chris53825MemberHas anyone been able to try this out? My NC10 is inaccessible at the moment (wrapped up for Christmas!)
December 17, 2008 at 7:08 pm #172771saureyMemberZweibug,
I think it’s Vista. It truly is a crappy OS, especially for laptops. It taxes the hardware pretty hard, heats it up, and makes the fan run more and longer. Anyway, my 2cents. It happened to me before on a Vaio. -
