Im very new to this, so not sure Im using the right terms. I have some programs on cd that I want to put on the netbook. Like antivirus or office. But how do I do that?
I read some posts about networking with my PC. Can someone walk me step by step in dummy talk threw it?
Do I use a USB cable?
What is a workgroup and where do I find it?The netbook has XP home on it, the PC has XP pro. Not sure if that’s making any difference.
PC is has wire connection to internet (ADSL).
Is there any other info you need from me in order to help? Thanks!

I have an external hard drive. Can I copy the folders of the programs I want like office, nod32, Nero and connect that to the NC10? and instaal from there?
Will that work?December 21, 2008 at 4:54 pm #176836hefMemberthis is not a simple task for someone who is obviously totally unfamiliar with home networking.
i can tell you what you need to be reading to find your information to set this up though.
look for info on “sharing folders and files”
“setting up a workgroup at home”
“acessing network shares”reading the info that you find on those topics should help you set this up.

Worked fine

Just plug it into your usb port and you can install all of your software!

Quote:Do I use a USB cable? No, you usually network PC’s together using a wired network cable or a wireless connection. In fact, you can use a combination of the two.
Quote:What is a workgroup and where do I find it?A workgroup is a collection of computers on the same network that can share resources. For what you want to do, you need to ensure that your main PC and the NC10 are part of the same workgroup. The default workgroup is MSHOME. Settings for workgroup can be found in Control Panel > System > Computer Name.
Quote:The netbook has XP home on it, the PC has XP pro. Not sure if that’s making any difference. For what you want to do this will not make any difference.
As for actual instructions on setting up sharing I suggest you do some research using the searches that hef has suggested.
An alternative to setting up sharing a CD/DVD drive is to buy a USB drive that can be plugged directly into the NC10. Although this will cost you, it could be a much quicker and easier solution. Setting up sharing on Windows XP PC’s can be tricky if you’ve never done it before!

I guess Ill try copying the cds to the external hard drive first. Sounds easier and probably safer (for me). -
