MemberJust wondering if anyone here uses a wireless mouse and taken apart the USB receiver and hardwired the receiver to the inside of their Sammy.
Is it easy to do? and where would the best connection be to connect it inside? Any pics would be cool.
Only thinking cos I have a Wireless keyboard/mouse set that I picked up in Aldi – not really interested in the keyboard side although it may come in useful – and wanted to keep all 3 of the USB sockets free for whatever else I need plugged in.
Any advice?

MemberI know you’ve got the mouse already but I wouldn’t contemplate it over using a Bluetooth mouse and having no hassle. I picked up a nice small microsoft one for about £20.

Memberah yes i had considered that – but, correct me if i am wrong, can’t the bluetooth only connect to one device at a time?
Wouldn’t be much use for me as I use bluetooth headphones.

On my desktop computer I have the following attached via Bluetooth at the same time:-
Mouse
Keyboard
Graphics Tablet
Phone
HeadsetThe maximum I think is 7 devices.

Memberreally? but I thought it was only one device at a time….or am i just more used to bluetooth on mobile phones??

MemberIt’s somewhat similar to USB – a BT “device” (mouse, GPS, headset etc.) can only connect to one “host” (PC) at a time.
But the host itself can manage several devices at a time.
Like Alfihar I routinely use a keyboard, a mouse, a 3G phone and sometimes a GPS simultaneously.January 8, 2009 at 11:47 pm #179050BluebirdNC10
Memberok, but if I did want to put the dongle inside,
a. is it feasible?
b. where would the best place to wire it up to internally?
I’ve cracked open my case to have a look and I suspect if I did go and install the dongle inside, then the best location would be between the hdd and the ram:
Apologies for the bad mobile phone picture. the dongle in question is the black thing with MEDION written on it.I also thought that maybe the best place to wire it up would be instead of the trackpad as I assume the trackpad is technically on an internal usb connection, but what do you guys think?
I fully appreciate the fact bluetooth is probably the best option, but I would like to use existing peripherals that I have instead of buying even more – even if it means not being able to use the trackpad.

ParticipantIf you don’t want to loose any functionality you may want to try and wire it up to the usb lines on the empty WWAN (miniPCIe) slot, on many netbooks these lines are active. You would probably need to get power from elsewhere though.
The touchpad does not appear to be on the usb bus as it doesn’t show up if I issue the “lsusb” command. It looks like it may be connected via PS/2.
EDIT: Just checked the output from “dmesg” one of the lines relating to the touchpad is:-
input: SynPS/2 Synaptics Touchpad as /device/platform/i8042/serio4/input/input6
So it looks like it is PS/2.January 9, 2009 at 6:23 pm #179051BluebirdNC10
Memberok, any idea where i can find info on the empty wwan slot so I pick the right usb lines?
how about advice on where i could connect the power? could that be taken from the trackpad?
nvm about the pinout for the miniPCIe slot – I found a diagram….I would probably use pin 36 for usb_d-, 38 for usb_d+, and 40 for gnd.
trying to track down a 5v connection….

Memberyeah
Im just too busy being lazy on a beach in Mexico at the mo….
the connector is labeled and the 5v and gnd are on the outside. Its easy enough to work out with a meterJanuary 13, 2009 at 9:16 pm #179054martin
MemberIt seems like an awful lot of trouble when, for $30 USD, you can order a really nice Microsoft bluetooth mouse (the laser mouse 5000) from eBay with shipping to anywhere in the world.

Memberlol.
bluetooth works more like a wifi wireless network than anything else except with a much less complicated encryption system.
