Hello,
I have been thinking for a while now how i can get internal hsdpa in my nc10 whilst having wireless networking capabilities. I thought is there a hybrid card or any way i could attach the hspda module to a unused usb connector.Any ideas in this area, i am not afraid of soldering.
January 4, 2009 at 8:02 pm #178484DaanRademakerMemberI read on the Samsung site that there is a sim card input in the netbook itself. Is this only true for European models or can this also be found in the american models and be activated internally. I guess that would enable you to use hdspa or 3g
January 4, 2009 at 8:30 pm #178486BagpussMemberI’ve just got a White NC10 here in the UK, and whilst it has an opening in the case for the SIM card (which is covered with a white sticker), there is no SIM socket on the motherboard.
If you wanted to install the 3G modem, you would need to solder both the SIM socket and the PCI-E connector to the board.
I’m going to be speaking to our Samsung corporate contacts tomorrow, and will be asking about the 3G enabled NC10, which is supposed to be released in February. Depending on the price premium, I might return my NC10 and wait for the 3G version to be released.
If Dabs are correct on price (around the £420 mark), then it might not be worth my while, but I’ll have to wait and see. There is also no word on which mobile operators will be pickup the HSDPA enabled NC10, but my contacts indicate that T-Mobile are supposed to be revamping their laptop/netbook lineup at the end of January. Maybe, the NC10 will be a new addition to their range?

Can’t tell with the other link, but for the ebay one to work you would need to solder in the missing sim card holder and most likely would have to solder in the missing molex connector for the WWAN slot as well.January 5, 2009 at 3:57 pm #178479eglebegleMember[quote1231167247=Bagpuss]

In Poland, PlusGSM aka iPlus.
http://www.iplus.pl/indywidualni-promocje-dla-nowych-klientow-kampania-swiateczna.html (polish)… this HSPA modem is without simlock 🙂 Anyone in Poland (but not foreigner) buy contract iPlus160 = Sammy NC10 for 1zÅ‚ (1/4 €) + 50 zÅ‚ (13 € ) activation of contract, next.. breakdown of contract (1400 zÅ‚ = 340 €). And you have NC10 with HSPA (NP-NC10-KAP1PL).

January 17, 2009 at 9:21 pm #178488cos76MemberHi all, just purchased my sexy samsung nc10 today! 🙂
regarding wifi/3g, i have a simple solution but not for everyone im afraid sorry.
for those lucky enough to have an iphone 3g like myself, you can install a 3rd party app called PDANET, adhoc to pc and bingo your online. tested mine at download speed was 270kbs! :Oanyways this might not be anything new but i love being able to do this, especially as im losing broadband for a week whilst changing isp hehe
hope this might help someone 🙂
ps: great forum!
thanks to the info here im smoothly running a dual boot of xp/win7!January 17, 2009 at 11:42 pm #178474adatay92MemberQuote:install a 3rd party app called PDANETYes but to do that you need to jailbreak your iphone 3g right?

January 18, 2009 at 11:33 am #178481BluebirdNC10Memberhow about wiring an internal usb socket inside the sammy and just plug in a 3g usb modem – something like the huawei e160g – which as a double whammy means you can plug a Micro SD card into it as it has a Micro SD card slot (up to 2Gb) and have additional storage space?
I have such a modem and it may fit inside comfortably….i’ll have a look.January 18, 2009 at 11:37 am #178476BritmanMemberI think there could be an issue regarding the signal. Having the modem inside might mean it can’t get a strong enough signal, plus interference.
January 18, 2009 at 7:14 pm #178485fppMemberSuch apps are also available for Windows Mobile and Nokia S60 phones. Personally I prefer tethering the phone as a modem through Bluetooth.

ah yes, I had thought about that, but the E160G also has an aerial socket….can’t remember what site I found it on, but you can purchase an aerial kit for the E160G to boost the signal.May still be worth considering….
