Hi,
I just bought a brand new black NC10 that came with a UK keyboard. Much better than the poor azerty layout we get here in France but slightly different from the US one I’m used to. I’m also missing the US international mapping a lot whenever I have to type in the two other languages I frequently use (french & polish.)
So my question is twofold: do you think it’s physically possible to replace the UK keyboard with a US one (i.e. since some keys have different sizes I’m not sure the connectors are the same) and if by any luck the answer is yes, where could I find such a keyboard?
changing the mapping is easy enough, go to the control Panel & then open up the Regional & Language settings.
That wont (durrr obviously Michael) change the physical keys.
IIRC isn’t the biggest difference between UK & US keyboards the @ & ” are switched ?
If you cant get keys to fit then tippex or little sticky labels would be the best option, or train your brain to think that @ is ” & vice versa ;o)
What really annoys me about the UK keyboard (not sure if the US one is the same) is that the backslash key is on the wrong side, and I keep hitting it instead of the question mark key!
It should be possible to physically replace the UK keyboard with a US one, I’ve removed the keyboard from mine and put it back on. I would expect the connector to be the same.
To remove the keyboard you remove the 3 screws marked KBD on the back, the keyboard is then held in place by some double sided tape and hinges at the front. To free the cable you pivot the brown connector upwards.
You would need to find somewhere that sells the keyboard though, I haven’t been able to find anywhere myself.
