MemberI just purchased the NC10 ysterday, an additonal RAM upgrade to 2G. I followed the instructions exactly as indicated (on the instructions page of this site) and with then new 2G installed (same brand, mhz, in the picture listed on the instructions page on this website) when I push the F2 Key, I get still 1024 mb as the memory.
So I started again, put back in the original memory, 1gb, and got 1024mb again. So I installed the 2G Ram a second time, and still the same thing. Otherwise, the NC 10 works fine.
I added a comment to the ‘upgrading instructions page, and JEZ replied suggesting that I write in this forum. He also suggested the following, which I completed, same problem.
I looked in the System Properties, and it says .99 Go of Ram (I assume that by the time XP is loaded, it’s using some RAM at this point).
The blister pack definately says 2 GB, and the actual piece of RAM is different from the one that is originally supplied, in that the original RAM has a row of 4 squares on each side of the RAM (total = 8), where the 2G (new) one has 8 squares on each side of the RAM (total 16).
Is it possible that there is a tech default in the new RAM and one ‘side’ is not being recognised/funtioning correctly? Or did I do something wrong?
As for the physical size, it fits in perfectly to the slot.
Any help any of you could offer would be great.

Membersystem bios autodetect memory modules capacity in root level, as such its not likely to be a system error as the user cannot change or configure this.
The number of chips vary on each module depends on the manufacturers design so this isnt a problem.
Was the blister pack sealed and did you but from an online dealer or reputable shop i.e not ebay.
can you write down the model number printed on the sticker on the chip?
Its going to be one of two things, faulty chip or wrong chip packaged in box. that is unless you went down the ebay route,

I’ll second the above, if the bios/system only detects circa 1gb ram the module must be 1gb. If it was faulty I am not sure if any would be detected. I upgraded to 2Gb from Crucial and am showing slightly under 2Gb. in XP.

MemberIs there a noticeable difference in speed with the RAM upgrade and does it impact battery life.

MemberI just upgraded my RAM to 2GB today with a 2GB Corsair Value Select 2GB SO-DIMM. This works (of course). The model of the memory module is: “VS2GSDS667D2 G”. You have a strange problem, I cannot see why this would not work for you.

MemberWell, I’ve only had the NC 10 about 24 hours, so I can’t tell about speed and battery life. (I use it as my travel PC – to replace my expensive Sony Vaio which had another problem….grrr). But speed seems the same to me with both RAMs seems the same to me….

whats wrong with the ram from ebay?
[/quote1227835341]nothing, if you don’t get scammed by some asshole selling you a 1gb stick in a 2gb sticks box and making you pay a 2gb stick price.

nothing
[/quote1227863738]Like hef syas there is potentially nothing wrong with purchasing from ebay and the vast majority of people use it very succesfully everyday. Remember to check feedback ratings carefully and you should have no problems. I think most would agree that there is an increased risk by purchasing from untested sellers on any auction site.
There are many ebay resources on the net which offer great tips to use the site without any problems 🙂

MemberI use Ebay a lot, probably too much, and have a feedback score of about 660 from both buying and selling.
Sure, I have had the occasional “disappointment” which have almost always been resolved satisfactorily but overall the experience has been good.
Until recently it was difficult to leave bad beedback for a seller as usually their response was bad feedback in retaliation. A change of Ebay policy now prevents this.

Memberthe only really bad experience i’ve ver had with ebay was one time i tried to sell something and the winning bidder never paid, or even responded for that matter.
ebay just refunded me the cost of the listing.
the best bet is to actually talk to the seller before you buy, either on the phone or via ebay’s built in messaging service.
