Hi all
Im writing this from work, my NC10 arrived this morning – I cant bear looking at the package sitting on my desk but I will have to wait until I get home to play.
Anyway, I bought a 2gb stick of ram and I have a simple question – should I turn the Sammy on first, complete the installation of XP and then turn it off to upgrade the ram or should I upgrade the ram beefore XP has completed its installation?
Thanks

February 25, 2009 at 12:01 am #184873TCMuffinMemberI would recommend that you boot up and check your NC10 is working properly before you update the RAM.
Make sure you keep the Samsung supplied RAM – if you subsequently have a problem with your NC10, Samsung customer services will ask you to reinstall the original memory chip.
Jez has written an excellent guide to installing the 2 GB RAM chip.
Hope this helps 🙂

[/quote1235564528]from wiki:
“The pozidriv screw can easily be distinguished by a line embossed in the screw head at 45 degrees to the slots for the driver. Thus, if the driver slots are at 0, 90, 180 and 270 degrees, the marker lines are at 45, 135, 225 and 315 degrees.”
the nc10 screws dont appear to have the embossed lines,
February 25, 2009 at 12:48 pm #184889Don_AudioMemberThat’s because the original pozidriv screw was developed at a way larger size.
Notebook screws are to small to feature this embossed lines without loosing some of their material stability.
There was a Thread going on about the screws used in the NC10:
http://www.sammymobile.com/plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?14359.0I’ve already removed several screws from my NC10 (with a pozidriv) and used the chance to put them on my huge selection of screwdrivers and the only one that really fitted to the whole screw was a PZ No.0 pozidriv. The phillips hat some little extra space and this would result in stripped screws.
In my oppinion Samsung did a good job by using the pozidriv screw because (using the right tools) its way more relieable and durable than a standard philips screw.
I’m pretty sure we will see more devices with pozi’s in the future.
(Not a native english speaker so i’m struggling a little with the techy talk)

February 25, 2009 at 4:56 pm #184881fcatMemberIve taken the screws out and put them back in FOUR times since i got my sammy and not one screw has even the slightest mark on them, they are as good as the day it arrived, pozidrive is the answer 🙂

[/quote1235641935]Yep me too but if you read around people have very different experiences. Mine just popped open with no effort at all so I also wonder what the problem is ;)! But unfortunately many of our fellow NC10 fans have not had it so easy so my advice is to take care. With luck people will find it as easy as you and I 🙂

Me too 🙂February 26, 2009 at 2:56 pm #184892AirwolfMemberI swapped my ram before I even powered it on.
March 7, 2009 at 7:32 pm #184894soundpimpMemberI just swapped my ram over. Didn’t have any problems using a philips head with the screw, came out very easy. However, did have some trouble removing the hatch – felt like it was going to break, the middle clips were very tight.
Anyways, as a side note I got my machine yesterday, set up everything, did an image and then did a reinstall of windows straight away as I don’t like all the bloat ware. I guess this meant it was the second time my registration key had been used. When I swapped the RAM tonight and powered on, at the Welcome screen I got a message saying “Since you first registered Windows there have been significant hardware changes, so you must re-register in the next 3 days.” When I went to put my registration key in, it said I had exceeded my maximum uses for the key and had to put in a different one. Ended up calling the registration hotline and managed to get around it that way. So perhaps it might be worth setting up windows WITHOUT registering, putting your RAM in and then registering.
Haven’t noticed too many differences in performance, but have hardly given this thing a workout yet.
