MemberHey,
does anyone know, or have they tried replacing the N270 chip in their netbook with the new dual core N300?
I think the sockets have the same arrangement perhaps, but i’m not too clued up on it.
Will the case support the increase in TDP?

ParticipantThe processor is soldered to the motherboard, there is no socket.
It would be very difficult to change the processor. I believe the socket/connection is also slightly different.I’m not sure if the increase from 2.5W to 8W TDP would cause any issues, it seems like it may be a bit too much of an increase for the cooling system.

MemberCould be a very interesting experiment though!

MemberI would love to see some enterprising individual attempt a CPU upgrade. As was mentioned, it is highly unlikely that it could be carried out, since the Atom CPU is soldered to the motherboard.
Who would like to volunteer their NC10 for this little experiment? ๐

Oh, by volunteering I meant for รขโฌลyouรขโฌย to actually do all the work. I would simply be an innocent bystander who would benefit from the results ๐February 6, 2009 at 10:22 am #182606Rsaeire

Steps over cape and tuts disappointedly at TCMuffin for attempting to pull the wool over my eyes.February 6, 2009 at 3:17 pm #182613BoloMKXXVI
MemberSomeone over at Eeeuser forum replaced the processor in his EeePC, but I think he used very specialized tools from his work.

MemberIt’s impossible because the CPU is soldered with a BGA and noone can solder a BGA to a Mainboard without a Reflow Oven.

MemberIn addition to that, intel only sells the processors already affixed to a board… ๐ (although that may not be the case if you were to purchase as a manufacturer)
