MemberThe EEE 1000H has a super performance mode that lets you overclock the processor to 1.7 or 1.8 i think. Does the NC10 have something similar?

MemberGood question – I’ll check when I get mine on Thursday … I know the new bios for the MSI Wind is letting people get to around 1.9Ghz

MemberOne of the function keys is termed “Easy Speed up Manager” – very slick lol! This just cycles between a slow low noise and power setting (its quiet anyway tbh) and a Max performance mode which allocates all resources to the current open program.
But back to the point, I’m afraid I don’t spot anything when entering the NC10 BIOS (F2 to view) associated it with overclocking.

MemberThat’s a real shame. An overclock facility would be a real bonus for the odd time you might want to use it to play a 3d game.
I’m surprised Samsung left this out considering the competition have it. Maybe it’ll be in a bios update?

Memberpossibly, I haven’t run any of the updates yet. Something to keep an eye out for.
Id guess the big prob with 3d games will be the gfx anyway.

Memberit may be possible to pll overclock using something like cpufsb or another pll interface app.
dunno what pll controller these boards use though.November 22, 2008 at 3:28 am #169829adough
Memberhas anyone tried overclocking their nc10 yet? 🙂 this is the only reason why i’m holding off from buying this baby.

Memberthere are high res images out there of the mobo. look for yourself for the pll interface chip to see if this can be done.

[/quote1227557719]One thing that might help with gaming is extra bandwidth for the graphics chip. By default the NC10 has a 533Mhz FSB with 667Mhz memory so there’s 134Mhz available for the graphics chip. But there are 800Mhz memory modules available at a very low price. So if the BIOS would allow that to run at full speed, even without increasing the FSB or CPU speed, you’d then have 267Mhz available to the GPU. That’s twice the bandwidth which could potentially make a big difference.

MemberInteresting.
I noted that some US versions of the NC10 were advertised with 800MHz RAM::
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-NC10-14GW-10-2-Inch-Netbook-Processor/dp/tech-data/B001I45T9OConfirmed here:
http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10064103-1.htmlThere seems to be a lot of examples of US ones having 800MHz RAM.

MemberMight be interesting to find out from anyone with a US NC10 if the memory is actually running at 800Mhz.

[/quote1227566219]There was a similar situation with a Vaio I once owned the Bios underutilised the available speed. The USA Sony site released a new Bios to rectify this but elsewhere in the world they never did.
Unfortunately trying to install a USA Bios on the same model elsewhere was rejected by the install software. It was a laborious process to graft the relevant parts to a Euro Bios file thus allowing the upgrade.
If the above is true then I hope Samsung is more friendly in this area.

I just got off the phone with Samsung. The guy i talked to said that while the machine could handle 667 or 800Mhz memory, it would only run at 667Mhz, and that there would be no benefit to running 800Mhz.Also, he confirmed that warranty would not be void by a memory upgrade.

MemberAh well, I went ahead and bought 800Mhz memory today. Not an issue though as the price was the same for 667Mhz ram too.
EDIT: I checked my order and decided to cancel it as it was still pending. Bought 667mHz ram instead along with the LG GSA-E50L external DVD drive from Elara.

[/quote1227635445]Well, I just received an email reply from Samsung to the same question, and they said to check with Crucial Memory. Crucial is now recommending PC2 6400 (800Mhz).

So I did an online chat with a Crucial tech:
Welcome to Crucial Technology’s Expert Online. An Expert Online agent will join you in a moment… Please do not begin typing until you have been connected to an agent.
Hello, my name is Dan . How may I help you?
Riffraff: Hello, I am getting a Samsung NC10, and Samsung said 667Mhz memory is ok, but your website says 800Mhz.
Dan : Do you have the 14G version?
Riffraff: Yes. The Samsung specs say 800Mhz, but my understanding is the Intel Atom proccessor (or chipset) only supports to 667Mhz memory.
Dan : I show that for this system the PC2 6400 is guaranteed compatible.
Riffraff: And that is 800Mhz, correct?
Dan : Correct.
Riffraff: Cool. This is new. I think your website said PC2 5300 until very recently
Dan : After we have tested for ourselves we do update the site.
Riffraff: Thanks for your help
Dan : You’re welcome. It was my pleasure to help, and I hope you were delighted with my service today. Thank you for visiting Crucial.com. Have a wonderful day.
