Am off to donate blood in town later today… soo will buy a screwdriver then… but grrr… the ram is just sitting there, staring at me yelling… and mocking π
oo yeah btw, any suggestions on what screw drivers to buy? dont wanna end up with stripped heads n stuff?
December 29, 2008 at 11:48 am #177776benMembermini philips will do fine – try and find a maplin or something, there’ll sell you a kit consisting of many different screw drivers.
If you can’t see anything that looks small enough, find one of the guys and say you need a screw driver for opening up a laptop; they seem to kno what there talking about in my local store so you should be alright.December 29, 2008 at 2:32 pm #177770BeckyMemberI feel your frustration. When I got my RAM on Christmas morning, I couldn’t find a screwdriver that would get the cursed screw out. Eventually I found one after about an hour of looking round the house.
I don’t know technical terms for screwdrivers (apart from philips and flathead lol) but you need to find one that’s very small and without a tip that’s too pointy so it grips the screw securely.
The screw is very soft and easily prone to stripping, so start off gently and if it feels like you’re not making any progress, don’t force it.
Have fun trying to get the cover off when you get the screw out BTW. I let out a few choice words when I got to that part. π In addition to the main clips at the end, there’s one at each side as well which makes it a real pig to to remove without a reasonable degree of force and wiggling about.
December 29, 2008 at 3:29 pm #177767jezMemberAgreed, get a mini screw driver because as you might have read some people have damaged the screws with larger ones.
Hope the blood donation goes well!
December 29, 2008 at 8:46 pm #177774WigglerMemberw000t π i donated a pint in 7 min 59 secs and got a screwdriver… but left it as my friends house π
but spent ages looking further round my house and managed to find out… and Lotta now has 2gb of ram π π

I ordered with on saturday night!! and now it’s been discontinued lol… odd but yeah well it worked fine, and i’ve bough loads of corsair ram of ebuyer…
December 29, 2008 at 9:13 pm #177777benMember@becky yes, the cover can be a bit of a bugger, I really don’t see why they needed to put tabs everywhere – I had to remove it and put it on again as the first time I put it back, it started to creak.
December 29, 2008 at 9:30 pm #177779mintlawMemberany other make you would recommend
December 29, 2008 at 10:34 pm #177773saureyMemberTake your Sammy to the Hardware store and try a cheap screwdriver. I did mine with a standard philips and had no issues. Just tested my snowboard tool and it worked fine. I think this thread is quite amusing since it shouldn’t be this hard.

December 30, 2008 at 11:37 pm #177772s162000MemberI had no problems getting my ram cover off. But then i had this:

I love taking things apart with these. Not come across anything yet that I haven’t got a bit for!
Girlfriend hit the roof when I took her phone apart though…..Be careful with those ram covers guys.

Ditto: I had to pry so hard I seriously thought I was going to break the cover. Wouldn’t a second screw or a short slide track have worked just as well?January 30, 2009 at 11:02 am #177768RsaeireMemberWhen I upgraded the ram of my NC10, I unscrewed the ram-slot cover on my NC10 with an oversized Phillips screwdriver, only one available, and then had to use a tweezers, not mine, to finish the installation of the ram.
On completing the upgrade, I noticed that I partially stripped the head on one of the ram-slot cover’s screws. Suffice to say, I am glad I wonΓ’β¬β’t need to open the ram-slot for a long time; if ever.
