First I bought some of speakers from ebay (item number 260374468028 if you wanted to see). Title was ‘IBM 91P8396 LENOVO THINKPAD T40 T41 T42 SPEAKER ASSY’

How much louder are these speakers compared to the original ones, a lot? Really considering doing this.

Hard to explain how much loader the IBM speakers are, personally i find when listerning to flash videos like on youtube i had to have the volume all the way up to hear anything, after I put the IBM speakers in i only need around half volume to hear.
Hope this helps you, It is worth the time if the original speakers really do annoy you as much as they did me 🙂
Hi all,
This is my 1st post. I have recently joined the Samsung Netbook revolution and am very happy with it. But for the sound quality. I skype alot and struggled to hear anyone, even at full volume.
I purchased the VECO 25KC08-N and completed the mod over the weekend but to be honest, the sound quality is still poor. I still have to have the netbook next to my ear when skyping. I would rather not have external speakers as this takes away some of the portability.
Has anyone been able to compare the quality of the VECO 25KC08-N to the IBM speakers?
It would be interesting to know if I should now swap the VECO for the IBM’s in order to improve the volume further.
thanks in advance,
Alex
About £4 for these speakers, seem like a good price.
(From the pictures, it looks as if they’re neither screwed nor clipped, just wedged; being somewhat larger, this probably works.)
The speakers having a higher wattage rating won’t mean you get any more sound out of them, unless they’re also a lower impedance (fewer ohms); the wattage rating of the speakers is what they can take without damage. The amound of power is determined by the “amplifiers” in the netbook, though as I’ve said connecting speakers of a lower impedance might increase the power supplied (though also increase the heating within the amplifier).
