Can you upgrade the NC10’s RAM to 2GB? I was looking on the samsung site and noticed that it said the max memory that the NC10 will support is 1GB
November 28, 2008 at 7:40 am #171957WilliamYZFMemberYes, it runs fine with 2Gb which I think the max the chipset supports. There is a detailed How To on the Forum Homepage.

December 3, 2008 at 8:15 pm #171960snowmanMemberJust upgraded mine – Ordered RAM from Crucial yesterday, arrived today.
5 minutes later Windows report 1.99GB RAM!
The RAM cover’s a little fiddly (has clips half way along it on both sides that need gently prying out), but other than that it’s a trivial task.
No idea if it’s running any better, but I’m sure it will 🙂

[/quote1228336754]lol sounds like me! I think you’ll notice the difference when you start loading up multiple apps.

[/quote1228343946]do we know if this is true? i’ve always been confused about how microsoft can limit to 1GB if you want it with Windows loaded. But why wouldn’t intel design the hardware to take 4GB or more, especially if some of these netbooks (or the NC11?) come with Vista on. Is there a battery or heat issue i’m not considering?
December 3, 2008 at 11:13 pm #171958WilliamYZFMemberIts 2Gb per bank, so its not the chipset, its just there is only one slot.
December 10, 2008 at 1:33 am #171961PsychNC10MemberI just did this tonight. The cover is almost designed to discourage you from changing out the ram as it feels like it’s going to break and as reported, you have to GENTLY pry and remove it.
December 10, 2008 at 4:38 am #171955SerendipMemberI upgraded the ram today, too. The credit card trick with the cover helped a lot, as did the warning that there will be a popping sound. All told, it took less than five minutes, and that was with forgetting the chip needed to be installed at a 45 degree angle, so it took a couple of tries.
Whether there is a performance change, I’m with everyone else… I don’t know! When I’ve added RAM in the past to computers, the difference was startling. Still, I’d rather have it and not need it just yet!

I could see the ram slot bending a little too much for my liking when I was upgrading my ram too. It does bend worryingly though doesn’t it? And I agree, it does discourage you from removing the slot yourself.December 10, 2008 at 5:54 pm #171962PsychNC10MemberYes. I did it after returning home from work and almost waited until the morning as I was afraid that I’d break it
December 11, 2008 at 4:09 am #171963EacerMemberAdded my ram today as well. Feel so great!

[/quote1228996812]Microsoft put a limit on how much the device can be sold with XP on it, as it is a special version of xp that is sold with Ultra Low Cost Mobile PC’s (ULMPC’s). Microsoft didnt impose a limit on how much can be installed, just how much it can be sold on the retail market with, if it is to be sold with XP. As you all should know, microsoft have stopped shipping xp with computers apart from netbooks that qualify.
I did the 2GB upgrade as soon as I got my NC10. I used 2GB of corsair 667MHz RAM, so I never got to see the performance of 1GB.

[/quote1228998219]I did pretty much the same last night. I just turned it on the new NC10 to make sure it was all working and checked how much RAM was being reported as being used both in the Bios and within XP and bit the bullet and changed it. I was much more confident after reading the guide on this site and other experiences. The only problems was slowly and carefully prizing out the cover. The RAM was correctly reported in the Bios and XP and I gave a sigh of relief.
I used ‘Crucial’ memory from their own site which I ordered a couple of days after ordering the NC10 and both arrived the same day. I’ll never know what a difference it makes but more RAM has got to be a good thing. 🙂
