[/quote1227898208]There is a stickers link on another thread I started ages ago about the pros and cons between the white and black NC10’s. Essentially the only con to the black is the shiny lid, hence a sticker/skin link there.
Happy to see there are now LOADS of different designs available, although I bet most are stolen from deviantart – I’ve just become the subject of theft on there 🙁
December 7, 2008 at 7:51 pm #170251barney91Memberhows about using some wet & dry sandpaper
December 7, 2008 at 8:19 pm #170249WilliamYZFMemberIts not something I would contemplate but with some careful masking you could spray on a couple of coats of satin or matt black or clear.
December 8, 2008 at 8:56 am #170254UggyMemberHow about putting your Sammy & a bucket of broken glass into a cement mixer?
Sure would take the gloss off it then 🙂
Superfine wetnDry paper is a possibility, but Im happy with the odd fingerprint & couldnt care less what colour the netbook is, as long as it works.
Candian Ebayer selling skins, but I’m thinking wood effect or maybe roadkill?
LMAO

Just picked up my NC10 Black – with 2gb
Just intersted with topic, although great to see personalised skins and diff textures – I went for the simple option…..I chose Black as personally I think White looks too pearl…instanly saw fingerprints on cover / solution = car wax! It definately works – try it!

Well I think most people will be relieved to hear that I didn’t take a sandblaster or metal grinder to the lid of my black Samsung, however I am still working on an alternative to alieviate my stress garnered from the insanely annoying marks people keep leaving all over my netbook!!
No it’s not me who is super careful to keep all fingerprints at bay, but others who casually pick the device up any which way, manhandle the lid and lo and behold smear marks all over the thing. Now as yet I’ve not been using the computer for any business but I do seriously think that smears all over it cheapen the look and make it appear as an abused toy!
Perhaps I’m over exagerating?
Anyway, what’s this about Car Wax??? Please say more! What does it do to the finish, does it prevent finger mark residues or does it simply buff the finger marks off to pristine out the packet appearance, or better still does it make the lid a matte black?!?!!?!?!!?
POST PICTURES!! (please)

Or even a Scotch pad.December 14, 2008 at 12:15 am #170257streetfighter-rMemberI’ll try to do a quick vid when I have time. Its the most simple thing! Just wax the lid as you would with a car…I used some quality natural car wax by Zymol – but any clear car wax will do…
This way, you get to keep the classy piano finish lid without greasy marks. When there is little evidence of grease – just get a glasses or non-scratch cloth and wipe clean – VERY EASILY.
Try it – you’ll see for yourselves. Just ensure you only way the lid and non of the matte plastic.

December 14, 2008 at 4:28 am #170245hefMemberseriously, i don’t think this is really something worth modding over.
jsut was your hands more and don’t other people’s manky hands near it.December 14, 2008 at 10:10 am #170233jonbadMember[quote1229249239=hef]

Other than the internal bits of the NC10, wireless and 3G etc, what’s there to mod if not the appearance including the glossy lid?
Finger grease is natural no matter how much you wash your hands and sadly not letting other people touch it isn’t an option…December 14, 2008 at 11:08 am #170226fatnbaldMemberJust read the first post regarding sandblasting the lid. DO NOT even think of it, we manufacture sandblasting equipment and the levels of static induced using plastic or any other media will completely destroy anything electronic. You can regularly see static discharge sparks of a couple of inches long when some of the machines are running.
And then there is the dust – it gets everywhere and is a really nasty abbrasive material.
December 14, 2008 at 11:51 am #170234jonbadMemberRE fatnbald: hehe, it sounds worthwhile to try just to see that!! I would probably take the lid off then in order to do that method, am sure it would work well if the lid were removed from the netbook first.
I am still going to mod the lid but am most interested so far in what the car wax can offer
December 15, 2008 at 11:34 am #170240humpsMemberI think to be fair, I’m more about modding for the sake of modding, not actually too bothered by the finger prints. At the end of the day, I have an iPhone, owns a glossy screen macbook with glossy polycarbonate casing!
Car wax will certainly help keeping the glossy finish last longer. But I just want something a little different, I’m still thinking about the soft touch coating/finish from Alsa Corp. It is no typical matte paint… just that I can’t source it in the UK!
December 15, 2008 at 12:15 pm #170246hefMemberapparently these guys are the only company in the uk distributing for alsa
