I run a lean machine; my CPU usage idles at 1-5% and is 15-45 during heavy application usage. I Also monitor my RAM usage and it never exceeds about 70-80 percent.
Does this mean that a 2Gb RAM upgrade wouldn’t do anything for me? Could extra RAM speed up my boot time?

If you run a lean machine and don’t intend to have several programs or browser tabs open simultaneously, then you are unlikely to benefit from 2GB of RAM.

A benefit of having 2GB is being able to disable XP page file relatively safely so there is less HDD access, possibly increasing battery life.

If I am honest I didn’t find that adding the RAM made a huge difference to normal use but I bet from time to time it has shown its benefit.
At current prices I would say it is worth getting anyway but you may well feel differently :). Check out my NC10 RAM experiences here.

[/quote1235729492]I agree, I just like having it in there to be honest, knowing that i’ve done all I can to maximise perfomance whilst not spending a fortune
February 27, 2009 at 1:20 pm #185080sonysandyMemberWell at £16.99 Play.com are doing good deals on memory, it might not make a huge difference to performance, but then its so cheap its worth a punt.
March 2, 2009 at 2:55 pm #185079asitmcMemberwith the ram so cheap, I would just do it and feel that it’s running its best. If you do not do it, you will wonder “Is this because of this crappy 1gb?” all the time.
good luck
