MemberJust thinking out loud here but i saw on the post re the touch screen that a internal usb hub was provided giving extra internal usb connections. what about the possibility of connecting a usb dongle internally to a usb conection all inside the case? any one got any thoughts or wana see what can be done?

ParticipantI can’t see any reason why that shouldn’t work, the only limitation may be the power provided by the usb connections on the hub, and this shouldn’t be a problem.
I was wondering the same thing when I saw the touchscreen kit, except with the possibility of a GPS module. I wonder if you can get hold of just the usb hub.

MemberOnly other concern would be signal from inside the case for a 3G module or a GPS module.

MemberAgree with adatay92, the 3G signal strength maybe too weak. There is also the concern of the actual physical size of the dongle once the outer casing is removed, will it fit inside and will it get hot and cause over heating.
You could try removing the outer casing and opening the NC10 to see if there’s space. Then maybe run a USB extension lead out throught say the memory door and into a USB. This will test signal strength and interference.

Memberthe internal usb hub from the touch screen kit takes up most of the spare room inside your nc10 …the hub actually goes where the HSPDA slot would be,
Also the signal may be an issue, I actually tried to use mine to install an internal usb GPS reciever, it just could’nt lock on to any satelites once inside the case.

MemberI have a new solution to Dongle free 3G / HSDPA. and i am using it now! Im with T-Mobile and i scoured there pages and found if you are an existing customer with web & walk on your phone you can use your phone as a modem. you have to upgrade to “web & walk Plus” for £6 per month (3gig p/m) or max for £14 (10gig p/m ) as i have half price friends and family also i get these for half price. so im paying £7 per month for 3.5mb ( actualy around 1-2mbps ) with a 10GB limet per month.
Im a happy bunny. i always have my phone with me and can connect via Blue Tooth or usb ( which charges my phone ) No modding requiredFebruary 4, 2009 at 11:19 pm #181269revz

[/quote1233874234]Yer but you have to be on web & walk PLUS or MAX not just the normal web & walk.

MemberAs far as I know some companies like ATT charge extra for tethering even if you have unlimited data plan on your phone. You can expect your bill to go much higher (I think it is 1 cent per kb tranferred) if you tether with unlimited data plan on your phone but without tethering option in your plan.
In my opinion, if paying extra for tethering, why not get a USB WWAN Dongle along with something like the following to make it flush to the side of the netbook:February 15, 2009 at 9:25 pm #181262Britman
Membercool, I’ve just ordered one.

MemberBilly – It seems like it is about half an inch to an inch away from the nc10.
IMO, the one on ebay seems to fit much nicely with pretty much no gap between nc10 and the usb device.

MemberThe one you link to is better looking and fits closer, unfortunately there isn’t a UK seller. With postage that pair would cost £24.00, the ones I bought were £19.20 for four.

MemberI’d suggest ‘USB Gender Thumb Swivel’ and see what comes up.
Can the USB dongle versions not have antennas attached and then routed up through the LCD bezel or even to a port to attach an antenna externally?
