MemberI have NC10 that does not have 3G (WWAN) modem or SIM Card reader. It seems that the circuit is there on motherboard and I was wondering if anyone already tried to solder the molex and the SIM Card Reader? I am willing to try this mod, but don’t know which parts I will need. Also, is there a mini pci card that has both wifi and 3g connectivity with built in SIM Card Reader? If there is one, then perhaps I can replace the wifi card with the card that can offer both wifi and 3g.

MemberI don’t think it’s been done, I too would like to see it done.
I believe 3G has been modded into the NC10 by some Germans but not sure if the sim slot are already there in the german version.February 12, 2009 at 10:40 pm #183526beach
Memberwouldn’t it be cheaper sand easier to sell the nc10 and import an Asian spec nc10 with it already built in?

Or possibly wait for the O2 deal, as mentioned on the front page of this site.February 13, 2009 at 11:59 am #183523gerttom
MemberOp ebay vond ik:
DELL WIRELESS 5520 BROADBAND WWAN 3G/HSDPA INSPI- 1720
Kunnen we hier wat mee?? Past deze niet in de Wifi Slot? Tevens mis ik wel de simkaart houder.

MemberThanks everyone for the reply.
I don’t think it is that easy to import Asian or European version of these netbooks. I have not seen any of these on ebay yet.
If I can buy one with 3G modem, I will definitely do that. I am surprised why US is last in getting all these cellular technologies. IMHO, if they provide 3G Modem built-in in NC10 for US Customers, they will sell a lot more here in the US then they do in other countries.Keeping it on subject, I opened the NC10 and it does not have the 3G modem or the SIM Card reader, but the circuit seems to be there. I obviously don’t know if we will need to mod the BIOS as well or not.

Membergerttom – I think there is one by Atheros that comes with built-in SIM Card reader, but lacks wifi.
I found the following card with built in SIM Reader:
http://www.novatelwireless.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=11:expediter-eu850d-72-mbps-pci-express-mini-card-embedded-module-with-sim&catid=2&Itemid=9And for this to work, we will need the following attenna:
http://www.ead-ltd.com/antennas/GSM/Quintus.aspx
This can go in place of existing wifi. So my search for one card with Wifi and WWAN is still on. Also, searching for molex, I found (but it is obsolete, and I cannot find something similar on their site):
http://www.molex.com/molex/products/datasheet.jsp?part=active/0679109000_EDGE_CARD_CONNECTO.xml
And for SIM Reader:

Excuse me all. I’m on a few forums about the NC10. I had to write it in English.
On Ebay I found this:
DELL WIRELESS 5520 BROADBAND WWAN 3G/HSDPA INSPI- 1720
Can we use this card? DOes it fit in place of the wifi card? Also I miss a simcard reader.
Again excuses and see some people replied already on my quesion.February 15, 2009 at 10:58 am #183529danish
Membergerttom – I think you can use it, but as far as I know the problem is that some of these WWAN cards use 3.3 volts whereas the WLAN (wifi) cards use 1.5 volts and due to that, some of the pins on WWAN cards should be blocked. Not sure which ones though. I know jkkmobile guy (http://jkkmobile.blogspot.com/2008/10/how-to-3g-hsdpa-to-acer-aspire-one.html) did block few pins to make it work.
But even if you can make it work, you will need a SIM Card Reader.
I found the following card with built-in SIM Card reader which might work well:
You can order this card from:
http://www.mobilx.hu/expedite-eu850d-beepitheto-modul.html
Hope this will help.
