Ok, i’ve not done this yet so don’t go and get all excited but i would love some pics of the NC10 mainboard (both sides) if anyone has any.
I’ve seen this mod done on the eee pc and would love to utilise the spare pci-e connection that is included but still need to know if anyone has done this, or knows for sure that it can be done. Does anyone know where i can get the pci-e mainboard connector and does the sammy have this pci-e port enabled from the factory or would further mods be required (such as power to the socket)
I’ve seen a few pci-e hsdpa cards on the market with sim slots, this is the route i would take as i would use a dedicated sim for this task so access to the sim would not be required and installing this at the same time as the Intel 5300 is the plan.
I would be interested to hear from anyone who has also the same/-ish idea or interested parties (a guinea pig would be great if you feel up to it 😉 )
January 14, 2009 at 11:26 pm #179863JackoMemberA quick 5 min search and the pci-e connector can be bought from [url= http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/searchBrowseAction.html?method=getProduct&R=0435683%5DRS Components[/url]
They come in a pack of 5, so…who wants one? I’ll put an order in within a couple of days…

Ok, i’ve found a site that shows a special German model with hsdpa built-in. This is good news, as hopefully the pci-e slot will be enabled and also, an externally exposed sim card should you ever need to remove it. I would love some mobo shots of the uk nc10 in high detail to see if adding a sim holder is also an option.
I just pulled the battery out of my nc10, guess what….the cut out is already there for us so no case hacks are required! I didn’t notice it when i installed my battery for the first and last time when i got it out of the box…it must have been all the excitement of getting a new toy powered up. 😀
I’m getting really excited already…
EDIT: I just looked over the pics again and it seems the sim slot is sat on a special pcb, unless this can be purchased from samsung…it would require more modding….maybe intergrated sim reader in the hsdpa card is the easier route.

I think I still have higher res ones.

I’ve started getting the parts together, just need to know what 3g card is best…its hard finding reviews…
January 17, 2009 at 8:44 pm #179860newstMemberYou might want to go to the forums at JKKMobile.com. JKK has added 3G to practically every major netbook (not the NC-10 yet) on the market, with dialog, photos and even at times, video.
He has also been very helpful to his readers who are attempting to modify their netbooks.
January 17, 2009 at 10:31 pm #179867SukhMemberWhats the Intel 5300?
January 17, 2009 at 10:51 pm #179862BritmanMemberJKK is a legend in the netbook community.
January 17, 2009 at 11:22 pm #179866JackoMemberYes JK does know what hes doing with UMPCs…if you look, i’ve already asked JK when he plans on performing the mod to the NC10 and he’s said he’ll be doing it in a couple of weeks 😀
I may wait for him to do it, or beat him to the punch…we’ll see.
