MemberHi guys,
For those of you who have already got the NC10- for the power cable running from the mains to the AC charger unit is it using a:
Two pin figure 8 plug?
or a
Three pin clover-leaf plug?Pic here: https://www.onlineshoppingcart.com.au/shop/images/laptopcords.jpg?osCsid=5g8n8h6v67p2vv2elhm6rkjs31 (left is 2 pin, right is 3 pin – both come with AU plugs)
Also what voltage input does the AC charger take? We’re running 220V here in Australia so I believe this is the same as the UK.
Apparently you can just replace the UK power cable with another which fits into Australian/”Insert your country here” mains by simply exchanging the cable of the charger unit.
This is a less bulky, cheaper and safer option then buying a converter unit for the mains plug itself.
Many thanks!

Memberuk runs 230/240 ac 13AMP man.
rewireing the connections will work for you, HOWEVER your psu unit will last about a third of the time it should last becaus eit is operating on the wrong voltage (assuming you use a uk supply unit).
the easy way arround this is to use a AUS DC supply unit that has the same connector, volate and amperage output as the original unit.love.

MemberMy bad sorry- AUS is 240 Volt as well. (doh!!) – so that won’t be a problem. But yeah is the cable 2 pin or 3 pin?

MemberThe “official” single phase line voltage in the UK is 230 VAC (although it is in reality variable) that is so that the “continental” 220 VAC and “UK” 240VAC equipment falls within the required percentage range for it to work correctly within the given band of the voltage specification. Using either end of this voltage window will not have any noticeable detrimental effect on the performance or life of any device being used.
Not checked the transformer for the NC10 but most manufacturers of international equipment make them 100 – 230VAC, 50 – 60Hz so they only have to ship one around the world and just stick a different mains lead in the package for tha various style of power outlets there are.

Memberreally?
i totally did not know that. i was well under the impression that different voltages properly fuckeds stuff like psu’s.November 22, 2008 at 1:21 pm #170532plasmapuff
MemberYep thanks mate- so for those with the NC1- unit already…

MemberIf you buy from the UK then the NC10’s AC-adapter has the “two pin figure 8 plug”. The AC-adapter can operate in the range of 100V-240V so that will not be any problem. I live in Sweden and I have just replaced the latter part of the adapter with a power chord that has the two-pin in one end and my countrys 2-hole poweroutlet (most used European standard).

MemberBonjour Embark – I am in France too … any will do !
I use the one that came with the battery charger for my camera
Here is one for sale on ebay – but you can probably find one in Darty or Carrefour.

MemberFoul language is unnecessary hef and adds nothing to an argument !
You are well under the wrong impression that different voltages properly f***eds stuff like psu’s as others have corrected you.
Regarding figure of 8-v-cloverleaf my previous 2 laptops have had cloverleaf which I discarded and converted a figure of 8 lead by carefully cutting out the web between the 2 pins after which it fits perfectly. No problems whatsoever with this over about 6 years.

MemberSorry – I don’t know where to get such a powerchord in France. “Any” should do but they have spec’s saying how many amps they can carry.

MemberAs someone already mentioned, any figure 8 cord will do. You’ve probably got half a dozen already lying around at home (from other chargers, boomboxes, DVD player…), but if not, you can pick one up from any brico (Leroy Merlin, Casto…), hyper or electrical store for around 3€.
