If you’re like me and you use usb sticks quite a lot, but you’ve decided to kill off the start bar, you’ll find that quick access to the ‘safetly remove hardware’ menu a tricky beast to live without.
A bit of a google and I found a nice article on how to add a right click function to the context menu. Excellent.

[/quote1228927804]There is the “potential” to do harm. I guess it depends what you have on there and what you are doing. I am like you though, I just pull it out. Of course one day I’ll corrupt some key file and will only have myself to blame!

December 11, 2008 at 5:11 am #174624hefMemberthe problems arise with usb hard drives (mechanical ones) not flash drives as hard drives user write behind caching which means that you may pull the drive before all the data is written to it by accident. this doesnt happen with flash drives as they jsut fire all the data straight into the chips.

[/quote1229008983]Yes that potential is very real with my one, and since then I always ‘safely remove hardware’ to avoid any problems.
Last time i did it, i had to format muy usb stick, there was no other solution! And i lost all of my files. So you have been warned!
March 1, 2009 at 6:40 pm #174627KiNeLMemberNever used ‘Safely’ Remove’ since the first machine I had with USB and how long ago was that !
Never lost any date either but then I’m not that dumb to pull something out whilst it’s still writing.
If anybody finds it a comfort blanket though that’s fine.
