MemberHi, long story, but I’ll try to be succinct as possible.
I’ve had a NC10 since February 2010. It’s worked fine, no problems at all – up until yesterday. I was browsing the net (via google chrome) and suddenly no pages would load. The wireless connection looked fine, it said it still had a full, strong connection. I tried IE browser, that wouldn’t load any pages either.
Our other laptop has no wireless connection problems, so I started doing some googling to find out what was wrong with it. I’m not technical but I tried a few things:
– checked IP address and DNS server address were being obtained automatically.
– checked wireless was ‘enabled’
– uninstalled and reinstalled Atheros AR5007EG wireless network adaptor.
– at this point the wireless was still connected fine but browser still wasn’t loading anything.
– then I downloaded and installed the updated version of the Atheros driver.
– at this point, the wireless connection died and since then I have not been able to get it to connect again at all.
– I figured it must be something to do with the new driver so I did a full system reboot. But this made no difference at all. System can find wireless networks, but can’t connect. So, as far as I can tell, it’s not getting an IP address. Checking via command prompt I get the message:
Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:
Media state …………..: Media disconnected
etc etcI’ve also tried right clicking on the wireless icon and clicking repair, but it doesn’t work. It gives me an error message about not being able to connect to wireless network.
Anyone got any ideas??? Any help would be most appreciated.

MemberHi,
I’m having the same issues with my N120. I note you didn’t get any replies, so I wondered if you got to the bottom of this some other way.
I’ve also tried all the above fixes, so I’m as stumped as you 🙂
Let me know.

MemberTezzee & incept,
welcome to the forum.
It can be difficult to locate problems like this, you probably have tried these, but:
1 If you click your network task tray icon, can it ‘see’ any networks at all? If so, have you tried to connect to any other wireless ‘free’ networks just to test?
2 Have you tried completely removing the network connection from control panel and re-providing it? (i.e. in W7 – Control PanelAll Control Panel ItemsNetwork and Sharing Center then manage wireless networks)
3 If you have the ports/cables, can you connect via Eth directly?
4 If you look at the network adapter in Dev Man, is it shown as working and enabled?
5 In Dev Man – properties – Driver (for your wireless device) can you roll-back the driver (this assumes you have updated it recently)
6 Maybe just as a test, remove encryption (WPA/WEP …) from the connection and see if it can connect then. Obviously don’t leave it like this, just test. Finally, just try removing the lot, the adapter in Dev Man and the S/W connection configuration etc, rebooting and reinstalling the lot. Noting all your specific hardware and configuration details first.
Hope you find the faults. Good luck.

MemberThe Atheros drivers sometimes don’t like WPA.
My first test is to drop back to NO security for a few minutes testing, then back up to WEP to test there.
WPA using the latest drivers should be good, but sometimes the conflict is the Atheros and Router combination. At home here I had a Dell 1200, NC10 Ahteros that only do WEP, an HP G70 that only does WPA, two Belkin Routers (choose your own swear word) one doing WEP and the other WPA. WEP is public access only, no intranet. Sometimes you just can’t win.
