I couldn’t care less about the NC10, I give it the same level of attention that I do my car, I’m told there is an engine in there somewhere? The NC10 is a tool that serves a purpose, it has a fan that I never hear, and my hearing is pretty good.

[/quote1245654076]And environment to environment. If the ambient temperature of the room is high, the fan will work harder and more often, my PCs are noisier in summer than winter.
Using the thing in a way that blocks vents isn’t good of course, it will heat up quickly and the fans will struggle to cope.
Exactly. I can see North Africa from here, so I might expect a bit more fan activity than someone in the soggy, cold, grey U.K. (oops I think I said that last bit out loud).
I hear an occasional click from the HD and if I put my ear close to the machine a low wirling sound which could be either the fan or the HD drive spinning but nothing like the noise I get from my IBM and Sony Laptops.
My NC10 is not silent – every now and again I hear the fan kick in – but it is much, much quieter than any other laptop/PC I’ve used.
