Hi!
I’ve just bought a black NC10 (NP-NC10-KAP1PL) and wanted to update my bios… but the flasher fails with the following error:
The Bios/MICOM model to be updated is different.
Check the program.
Current model: (Bios Part Number): NC10(A03)
New model: (Bios Part Number): NC10(A00)My current bios version is 00CD
What might be wrong?
I’ve bought this laptop from my GSM operator, and during boot-up I can see the operator logo, so perhaps the bios was changed somehow and the update fails… Is there a way to override it?Thanks in advance…

January 20, 2009 at 10:32 pm #176855baszarMemberI’ve updatedmy BIOS in a wired way:
first I run samsung update – it updated itself. Run update again – then it found a new BIOS – ver 03CD. If the update program won’t run BIOS update (you hate to connect AC and battery must be >=30%) you can find the downloaded .exe file in update program directory.Or PM me with your email and I’ll send you the file.
I will be testing the new BIOS (available options/power consumption) and will post results in a few days.January 22, 2009 at 12:49 am #176849TCMuffinMemberThe latest version of the BIOS is 04CA which may be downloaded here
I’ve installed this with no problems

[/quote1232637262]Looking forward to any impressions, I don’t update my BIOS unless something is wrong or a big feature is added.

I agree. Unless there’s something to gain, don’t touch your BIOS.
Your NC10 might have customisations that have been programmed by the seller. Perhaps it’s locked so that it can only access one mobile network in a similar way to phones.
I haven’t seen posts saying that there’s anything new in the latest release but it might be something not immediately obvious such as increased battery life.January 31, 2009 at 12:15 am #176852ea66MemberWell I’ve done the update… nothing special really [apart from the usual heart attack during the update process:-)]
The power drain is quite lower, the fan turns on less often and with less rpms.
Unfortunately the update didn’t kill the boot-up logo of my isp… I was counting on that 🙂February 1, 2009 at 12:01 pm #176856baszarMemberUsually I also stick to the working BIOS (as you know new is a natural enemy of working the one 🙂 ) but I’ve read here people claiming lower power consumption and new features, so I’ve updated. Was worth it – power consumption is ~5% smaller, but no new features.
Fortunately the modem is not sim locked (one of the reasons I bought it) and as for network operator customisation – there is only windows wallpaper, and a splashscreen after booting.

February 4, 2009 at 10:41 am #176847RsaeireMemberI was thinking about updating the bios on my NC10, but since I’ve had no issues, I’ve been reluctant to do so. I have also heard of users who experienced increased fan operation after updating the bios, but looking from the posts above, this may not be true?
February 4, 2009 at 10:47 am #176850TCMuffinMemberI updated my BIOS to 04CA in the middle of January. I had no problems during the update process nor afterwards.
As TapOut has noted: the BIOS update will not proceed unless the NC10 is plugged in.
