MemberI ran across this in researching the NC10 and that the “Antibacterial” Solution they put on keyboard is Health Risk.
Is there any merit to this?
See below link?December 19, 2008 at 11:43 pm #176613lucynethel
MemberOOOOOH! I’m gonna rub my keys, THEN rub out my blotches! Always knew that Samsung must have had a quick fix.

MemberFrom what I understand, nano particles can be harmful if inhaled/consumed in adequate quantities. While it’s certainly concerning that nano silver from the washing machines may contaminate water supply, I can’t see how the coating on the NC10 could be harmful. Well, not unless you’re prone to rubbing the keys vigorously and then sticking your fingers in your mouth. A lot. I doubt there’s even enough on an NC10 keyboard to be a problem.
I appreciate that regulation may be necessary, but I think there is a degree of scaremongering going on.

MemberEwww!! This makes me very nervous. I may be a little OCD, but I’m washing my hands after using the Samsung and being very careful not to touch my face. Does this stuff come off if you rub it or clean it?? Is anyone else concerned about it?

MemberCrossing the road is a risk
Smoking is a risk
Riding a motorbike is a risk
Eating greasy kebabs at 3 in the morning is a riskhmmm am I worried about some Nano particles ??
I think not ;o)
More people die from worrying about things than actually die from what they’re worrying about IMHO

MemberAgree with Panman. This is classic territory for the ‘back to the stone age’ fringe of environmental campaigners. if we hadn’t developed the ability to use new technology without knowing absolutely everything about it we’d never had progressed beyond fire. You can see the conversation now:
‘I’ve invented this thing that cooks food and keeps us warm in winter and can make bad water safe to drink’ ‘oooh! that sounds real dodgy – we’d better regulate that to stop anyone using it’December 20, 2008 at 10:22 am #176606Sandy_UK

Memberwhat a load of rubbish, i’m slightly ocd but not enough to give a monkeys about some gimmicky coating on my keyboard. hell, this is truly one of those things for people lucky enough not to have real things to worry about in life. I’m jealous.

MemberI wouldn’t worry. If you worry about this then all women should stop wearing silver jewelry. The silver coating on the the keybard are just small particles of silver which makes it hard for bacteria to grow. You don’t inhale it. But of course if you would find a machine that can release silver nano particles in the air and you breath them in every day you would probably get sick….

MemberActually, I am not all that much for the concept, but for a completely different reason that the scare tactics 😉 There is far too much concern being poitned towards all those ‘horrible bacteria’. If we try to kill off 99% of ‘bad’ germs, what do you think will be left? They’ll be resistant to anything we throw at them. That’s not something we really need.
I am all for the concept of eating a pound of dirt a year. Cleanliness is a good thing, but there are certainly extremes that should be avoided… 🙂

MemberIf you keep your computer in your lap as I do 12+ hours a day, think of it as an even added benefit to the free Vasectomy it supposedly is giving me! IF I believed all there is I read to worry about…..

MemberAs we are on this subject, can anybody say if the nano particles actually does prevent dirt from visibly accumalating on the keyboard of the white NC10 ?? I’m stuck between purchasing a white NC10 or a Eee PC 1002HA and this is the one thing that has me kind of scared of getting the NC10….lol. I’m kinda OCD when it comes to a dirty looking PC.

MemberIf we weren’t exposed to germs on occasion, we wouldn’t be resistant to them.

MemberAndrew, I don’t think it makes any visible difference to how dirty the keyboard gets, it’s just supposed to kill any germs that come in contact with it.

MemberI have one of the newer apple usb keyboards at work. It gets grimy…I clean it.
I dont think we should worry about our possibly slightly poisonous(when licked) keyboards with people dying of famine in Africa.
Perspective ladies & gents.
