Hey kids this is a mouth full so bare with me. the picture says it all tho 😉 . so… if your headphone jacks screwed beyond repair… and bare in mind this generally works with any laptop that has built in speakers.
… open that puppy up and find the wires that lead to the internal speakers, taking note of which is left and right.. now… heres where you might start to feel ill… cut those puppys… bare in mind youl wanna keep as much wire on boths sides to re-join them when you no doubt get your new mini usb soundcard in the mail… 1.99 ebay.. works a treat 😉
until then get yourself a femail standard stereo headphone jack.. if your like me you have a few of these laying around your sh*thole somewhere but you can buy one of these in ANY decent electronics store.. the rest should be pretty self explanatory. play match the colors and you can litterally twist the wires together to connect them, make sure its nice and tight and it should be fine. you may find you have different color wires. but you can do some trial and error and find the right way quite quickly. so link it to the speaker wires and cover em up with some pvc electrical tape.. your ready to go… however!
and this is crutial kids ok.. DONT FORGET TO TURN THE VOLUME RIIIIIIIIGHT DOWN… infact. alllll the way down to the lowest it will go without making any noise at all.. and thats plenty loud trust me… your speakers have drive from the board unlike your heaphones which require low drive.. so, you might blow your eardrums if not least your headphones if you dont turn it down… so dont forget 😉i live on an island so i waited some time for a Fed-Ex plane to crash and wash my usb soundcard up on the beach.. in the end i made a tiny hole in the underside of my nc10 where the clip for the speaker jack goes onto the board so i can take it on and off as i please..
also as a total bonus, since the drive is so high you can wire that jack up to any decent small but loud set of speakers i used the ones of my cheap as aiwa cd player.. and in all fairness its genius… beats the crap out every set of usb speakers ive ever owned 😉 but does indeed rape your battery and litterally cooks your board to death… since then its been much more toasty in general, but avoiding high gain high output speakers seems to stop the cooking beeing quite so extreem 😉
but its good quality and its loud as you like it.. beach party material for sure since you dont need any external power.. even running these badboys my nc10 still has a good 3 hours of juice.
anyways ive done a few other little hacks and ill be doing some more.. ill post the pics of that first hack soon ill have to dig em out 😉since doing it ive helped a few people do this to their laptops just because its so handy
so you might even try it if your heaphone jacks not f*cked 😉 enjoyFebruary 21, 2011 at 9:48 pm #215682jezMemberlol, thanks for your entertaining account ;)! Definitely interested to see the pics. The standard NC10 speakers were always pretty awful.
