To those interested in accessories for the Samsung NC10, I picked up a few goodies over the past week or so.
1) Case: Case Logic PLS-9
http://www.caselogic.com/7_10_laptop_sleeve/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=126781Saw Case Logic’s new line of laptop sleeves, so I jumped on this one designed for 7-10″ netbooks. It’s made of stretchy, plush neoprene and is very soft on the inside. Fits perfectly, and looks great. Comes with a single front pocket for a mouse and thumb drive.
2) External DVD Drive: Samsung SE-S084
http://www.samsung.com/ca/consumer/detail/detail.do?group=computersaccessories&type=opticaldiskdrives&subtype=dvdwriter&model_cd=SE-S084B/RSBNA basic 8x, USB-powered, tray-loading, no-frills (no lightscribe) external DVD drive. Comes with a cable that occupies 2 USB ports (not AC adapter capable). The manual seems to suggest that you might be able to get away with 1, but it’s definitely not recommended. The box lists specs including a 160ms seek time and 2MB of buffer memory.
After plugging in the device, it was detected immediately by my NC10, and initial tests show that it works fine reading burned CD-R (hp), DVD+R DL (Memorex), and DVD+R (Verbatim) discs. Additionally the drive successfully boots to any bootable CD/DVD disc, allowing for OS in/reinstalls.
3) Mouse: Logitech VX Nano
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/mice_pointers/mice/devices/3271&cl=us,enBy far the biggest shortcoming of the NC10 is the touchpad, so an external mouse is a must for me. Given the NC10’s lack of vertical real estate, I figured scrolling would be a given–hence my selection of the VX nano with Logitech’s unique fly-wheel (hyper?) scrolling. You can engage the free wheel to spin/scroll through documents quite rapidly. It’s also helpful that the RF receiver is very slim, allowing me to keep it attached to my NC10 continuously.

I’d be happy to field any questions.

December 3, 2008 at 1:04 pm #173509Do-moreMemberI have a similar Logitech laser mouse but without the hyper scrolling.
The receiver isn’t as small but the handy feature is that the receiver, when not in use, can be stored in a slot under the mouse, doing so automatically switches off the mouse, preserving the battery life.
My NC10 hasn’t been delivered yet, so I can’t check it, but I’ve seen comments that the two USB ports are very close together, the receiver on this mouse is very narrow so hopefully won’t interfere with the use of the second usb port.
[MOD EDIT] Link was broken, now fixed. 🙂

[/quote1229314739]I got mine from Buy.com, but I’m sure if you search/google for “case logic pls-9” you’ll be able to find it at a variety of retailers.

I bought it off ebay from Hong Kong though and shiz takes forever to ship to the states. It really chaps my arse. I have no idea where the item is… 🙁 Ima go check now that I think about it.
