Hello. As I’ve only had my netbook for a week now, I’m still leaning how to use it.
I have an mp3 player that plays avi video files, so I’ve copied some of the files I have previously encoded to my nc10.
Using VLC media player works great, but for one thing- I can’t seem to get the bookmark to work in the way I’d like.
As I sometimes only have time to watch part of a video file, I’d like to be able to bookmark or resume play a file, but once VLC is shut down the bookmark is no longer available when its restarted.
Is there a way round this?
I’ve tried to find something in settings to save bookmarks but couldn’t find it.
Is there another media player that can resume play a media file?

Not sure if you’ve seen this from the VLC Wiki – might be of some help?
It looks like you need to Save a Bookmark, then Save the Playlist.
Then when you come back to it Open the Playlist and then Open the Bookmark.…not exactly ideal.

I did what the wiki said, apart for theQuote:“Opening a saved playlist will also load an associated bookmark list as long as the option “Enable parsing of EXTVLCOPT: options” is enabled. To check this setting choose “Settings -> Preferences -> Input / Codecs -> Demuxers -> Playlist”.I couldn’t enable parsing, because I couldn’t find it to enable it.
The layout seems to have changed since the wiki was written.
Once again thank you for trying.I just tried winamp, found it insanely complicated, the install took ages, & after all that it couldn’t play avi video files as video, only as audio, so I’ve just removed it.
Now looking again for another media player.
If an mp3 player can do a simple thing like resume play, it seems odd that VLC or winamp can’t bookmark a video file.
Wonder if itunes can resume play video?
Back to google……I found a player that can bookmark a video file.
Its called GOM Media Player. I got it from http://www.download.com.
Seems to do what i wanted
