I need some help regarding watching dvd movie.
I bought a Sony refurbished external DVD burner. It works great for everything else. It came with NERO, which I installed but will likely remove.
When I go to play a DVD with the DVD player….I don’t get any sound. No — my sound is not set to “mute”. I tried Windows Media player and the same thing happened.
Is there some special software that I need? Is there someway to just download the movie onto my hard drive and then maybe it will work?
I need some guidance as to where to start.

You need the correct CODEC (COder DECoder) to be able to play DVD’s and other video files e.g. XVID or DIVX.
Try installing a CODEC pack like K-Lite.
That should solve your problem.
Alternatively you could try installing software that comes bundled with codecs e.g. VLC or Media Player Classic. Once installed you should then be able to use Windows Media Player to play your DVD’s if you wish.
I bought a new Samsung writemaster, installed the software which is NERO, lost all sound i got nothing. i can play cds without their software, but nol dvds. i have no idea what that software did to it. when i had the NERO installed there was no sound on my cds either. i did uninstall right away. i have no what NEROS problem is. i was not going to keep it on my sammy.
