[/quote1228857838]I have done the bikes then car thing now I do it for myself, my girlfriend hates bikes so I got a lairy one. Its enlightening. If I could afford a car with the same performance I would be all over it.
Against my better judgement I recently splashed the cash on a house, my other side says I should have bought a fast car, new bike and a smaller house. Reality rules!

MemberThis is my second pan (had a GPZ500 in between) and I find it a nice blend of performance, comfort & practicability.
You only have to ask yourself why so many Police & Ambulance services used them for so long 🙂
Just out of curiousity (after talking to afriend)did a comparison against the boot space available in a Mini Cooper and that I have available(2 panniers, top box & large tank bag) and I’m only 2 litres shy of the Mini with the seats up 🙂

[/quote1228936122]Didn’t the Pan get some notoriety for high speed weaves?

Memberthe newer 1300s have had some issues which is why a lot of Police forces are getting rid of them(theres quite a few cheap ones on ebay but beware, some police forces have cut a chunk out of the frame rendering them unroadworhty so as to avoid liability issues even though there’s been nothing proven)
The older 1100 which I have is generally rock solid. Only time i ever encountered a problem was riding solo with a topbox & with Bridgestones fitted, hit a slight weave between 80 & 85.
Solo without the topbox & Bridgestones it was fine.
Been running Metzlers for the last 16k and have had no problems whatsoever (with otr without topbox fitted)

MemberThanks, thats good to know.
On an incidental note I got the bike out yesterday. I thought I had a front wheel puncture when I was riding. Turned out to be salt crystals on the road. I eventually caught up witha salting lorry.
I must have been mad it was COLD but the carbs appreciate a run now and again during the cold months.
Its a BITCH to remove them and clean out the tiny pilot jets.
Next time I may just run the bike in the shed – Its not biking weather!

MemberPansy, its lovely biking weather,
providing you’re well wrapped up and both your heater grips are working ;o)
Biggest problem after I finsihed shift this morning was cold air + moisture= touch of carb icing 🙁
Oh and running into a minor snow flurry on the way home 🙂

[/quote1229034241]I have done my years of all weather riding. The bike is strictly for pleasure now and as a single parent its reserved for term time school hours which rules out weekends. and major chunks of summer.
Sort of explains why a ten year old bike has only done 13,000 miles but every one has been a complete joy.

[/quote1229037457]There are two of them. 😉 9 &12 and I would be the first to admit that an R1 is not pillion friendly, plus the rear footrests are no longer there.
Tyres? I am running Pirelli Diablo Corsa III.
