MemberI am sure I am missing somthing here.
Is it not better to get one of the free NC10 deals and when you sign up with a mobile broadband as PC world are doing, rather than pay for a NC10 and then also pay for a mobile broadband deal.
Is it because the deal like the PC world deal ties you in for 2 years and is £30 a month whereas you can get a better deal when only looking for a broadband deal on its own is cheaper.
On the face of it a 2 year deal with PC worls costs £720 whereas if you buy an NC 10 first say for £300, you would need to find a broadband deal for £17.50 a month for 2 years.
Is that right?
Many thanks for helping reach a decision

MemberYep you need to look at the total cost of ownership so I think you’ve got it right.
My mobile broadband is PayG and cost £100 for the dongle + 12gb of usage over 1 year. So total cost for Year 1 is £400. Not sure about Year 2 yet!
I haven’t used that much data to be honest but when I have used it on the move it has been very very useful! The choice will come down to how much data you use and like you say, whether you can get a cheaper deal separately.

Memberthe networks say you cant use them in dongles/laptops for internet, or if you do there is a normal charge.
but you are definitely using this sim card not in a phone and get free data usage on a computer?
the ebay listing just kind of says free unlimited access not data usage.February 25, 2009 at 5:51 pm #184978EncoreMusic

They say a lot of things doesnt mean its true!! works fine, has done for the last 3 months. i also have a 3g sim thats only £5 a month for unlimited download!!!. They have no way of knowing that your using it in a dongle unless your downloading films and stuff but even then i download probably 10GB a month in programes and films!!

MemberI just use my phone over bluetooth. I have an unlimited data plan with Vodafone.
@Fcat – you got more details on the 3G sim for £5 a month please? Thanks!
February 25, 2009 at 7:20 pm #184960fcat
MemberSure, just buy one of these:
Register the sim online, load £10 topup, then click “buy add ons” and purchase the £5 a month internet, your left with £5 for next month and just keep on like that. Works a treat

whats the advantage of having £5 a month compared to £1 a month unlimited internet??
or when you say 3g did you mean 3 or three mobile network, all mobile broadband is 3g or hsdpa.i am tempted to try this ebay sim card out now for only £1 a month no data limit!
i currently have a 3 mobile zte mf622 dongle can this be unlocked to use the iphone 02 payg sim?

[/quote1235599284]I don’t know about the dongle, but the blurb from the eBay iPhone sim card seller says:
THIS SIM CARD START IN JANUARY 2009 SO YOU WILL GET A WHOLE YEARS FREE INTERNET
Which I’m guessing means, if you bought now, you’d only actually have 10 months left. So it works out a bit more then £1 a month.
Still cheaper, granted. But I’m not sure what you do with it after the 12 months is up. I think, you would have to buy another sim card for £12 and start over.
Also, and don’t quote me on this, but I think O2’s unlimited is not actually unlimited. Its subject to fair usage, I’m not sure of the cap though. I certainly know this is the case for their bolt on anyway. Don’t know if the Three one has a fair usage policy.
Whereas the Three one on the other hand, is £5 per month, for as long as you want. Don’t have to worry about it expiring…I think…
February 25, 2009 at 10:09 pm #184962fcat
Membercorrect, you just buy another sim card, reading all the forums and details about the o2 deal NO ONE has been charged extra or capped or anythgin as yet! its seems to be all talk!
February 25, 2009 at 10:12 pm #184967beach
Memberah so it is 3 network and not 3g.
i have seen the film type sim card unlockers on ebay for a few quid they might be worth a go, fits ontop of your existing sim to unlock the phone.
is the bluetooth route pretty simple, say if i cant unlock my dongle but can use a mobile, you can get stable long term connection over bluetooth and at high speed ( upto 7mbps)?
February 25, 2009 at 10:17 pm #184973Logan
MemberBeach, its all coverage dependent. Its unlikely you’ll ALWAYS get a stable connection, especially if you’re travelling i.e. on a train.
I won’t lie to you, its pretty unstable – this is my experience with Vodafone unlimted 3G data plan. I travel on the train a lot (Northampton to London and back again) and its painful at times. When you go out of a 3G area and the phone then has to switch, it can take awhile to get the connection again.
I’ve never used a dongle with sim card like the Three one or the O2 ones in this thread, so I can’t talk about stability with those personally.
