MemberHiya
I am just wondering what people are using their Sammy for? I pretty much use mine in the living room or in bed and I think the most demanding thing I ask of it is a game of Age of Mythology or Quake 3. Other than that it is pretty much Internet for even simpler games. I find the system works generally well and is quick and responsive. However Firefox on its first load takes about 11 seconds, which is pretty bad imo! Chrome is better for sure but I am unwilling to switch to that full time yet.
I have read about people disabling virtual memory and things like that. Does this really speed up the machine or does it just make it load faster? Loading faster is not that great if you have to wait afterwards to start the programs you use. I have seen people saying that if using lots of large programs it will start to chug with virtual memory disabled. What are several large programs?
In terms of keeping it as responsive as possible I disable nearly all of the visual options and use MSCONFIG to keep from loading needless programs at start up.
I guess what I am trying to find out is if there is more I could be doing to make it as fast as possible for the programs I use?
Thanks for any info.

MemberThat time is only the first time you load it once startign teh system up! I suspect that this is fairly normal for most people! My system uses 250 meg of ram on boot up (with AVG running) Once it has made that slow first launch it is only a second or 2 afterwards. Chrome will load in about 3 seconds after loading XP and is faster after that.
It is funny that I have seen so many people wanting to make FF work better on the small screen by installing loads and loads of plug ins! I’m sure this just makes it even slower! I really like Chrome but its proxy settings options are a bit duff at the moment.

MemberI use my Sammy for the net/emulation/music and recording tv with my Win TV stick.
My Firefox takes a few seconds to load at startup, but this maybe because it loads the pages from your previous session. I think you can turn this off?
Disabling the virtual memory is only recommended if you have 2GB ram installed. To be honest you probably won’t notice a difference.
I find the Atom to be very speedy, just as fast as my Core 2 Duo on certain tasks.

MemberThe first start of Firefox is slow because of Firefox not because of the computer. First start of Internet Explorer is a little slow too but always faster than Firefox.

MemberYeah I know it is all ways like that for any program! Just wondering if it can be sped up really. On the whole I am very happy with performance, so much so I spend a lot of my tiem in silent mode. Tho I pump up the brightness still 😉
