MemberHi guys,
Had the NC10 a month, did the 2gb memory upgrade with the memory from PLAY (think its 600mhz stuff) and just recently starting to get blue screen of death.
Error:
Hardware Malfunction
NMI – Parity Check/Memory Parity Error
This is a blue screen of death, can only cold boot afterwards and happens randomly when machine is in use. Can be after 30mins, can be after 2hrs……
I will take the memory out and clean contacts of dust quickly and retry, and then take memory out I bought form Play and try again….but anyone else had similiar problems or have any advice?

MemberDefinitely sounds like the memory is faulty. As you said, reseat it and see if that works then if not put the old stick back in and see how you go with that, from the sound of it though I think you will find it is a faulty SODIMM.

MemberI upgraded my RAM (bought from Crucial Memory) about three weeks ago and (touch wood) I haven’t had any problems.
As Kirk has said, it looks as if your RAM is faulty.

would it make any difference being the higher speed ram that the nc10 won’t use and just downgrades?

No, the higher speed RAM is just throttled back to the motherboard bus speed.February 2, 2009 at 9:35 pm #182204funkyfin2000

MemberAny further news on this as my NC10 has just started to show up the same blue screens with the NMI error. A quick google search has revlealed to me that it is not usually as a result of the actual physical ram – it is a problem usually caused by drivers or firmware – which then in turn cause the ram to error…. at least, that’s what I understood!
I will see if cleaning my ram (which I must say doesn’t look like it needs cleaning) helps, and say if that has fixed the problem.
It is worth noting that I am running the Windows 7 RC, and so am using a non standard (Vista/XP) trackpad driver, but this has worked fine throughout my entire several months worth of Windows 7 Beta, and the first few weeks of Windows 7 RC, So I don’t imagine that’s what is causing it.
Other than that, seems a bit weird, if it turns out to be the RAM itself, I’m lucky (I think and hope) as I bought from Crucial who offer lifetime warranty on their Ram.
Time will tell!Bloody annoying there’s not an ignore button for the message though!!

MemberI but a lot of RAM from Crucial and my experience of Crucial’s lifetime warranty is very positive – it does what it says on the can 🙂

MemberHmmmm The problem sorted itself with mine, after reformatting and bloweing out the RAM with cool air!
Maybe it was a driver issue! It happened whilst I had Vista on i think!

MemberI just got this exact same error with Windows 7 and the 2Gb upgrade from Play, which is odd because its been fine for weeks and memtest86+ ws clean when I first installed the ram..

MemberI also had a crash like this two days ago. First time that it happened. I’ve had the computer for around a month now, and about two weeks ago installed a 2GB Kingston RAM module. I was quite taken aback by the crash, fearing something had actually broken, but it hasn’t repeated itself yet. I guess I’ll keep on monitoring the situation.
Oh, and I got the error in Win 7 RC.
