First thing on the agenda is upgrading the memory. Trouble is, I’ve found several options in terms of manufacturer. So now I’m interested in what you guys chose and why!?

MemberI chose Kingston as they were the cheapest available at he time. To be honest, there is very little difference, if any, between the manufacturers you mentioned, so I would recommend choosing the cheapest ram available.

ParticipantI went with Crucial (Micron), but only because I’ve used them a lot in the past and haven’t had any problems.
The brand of RAM which came with my NC10 was a Samsung module.
With the NC10, it shouldn’t matter much which brand you go for though.

MemberIn my NC10, it was a Samsung module (1Go 6400s)
and i’m actually using a OCZ 2Go 5400.
Doesn’t really matter to my opinion. Choose the cheapest one when you buy (but choose a famous manufacturer’s one, not no name)

[/quote1234660810]Nope. The NC10 does not run at 800MHz but does support 800MHz SODIMM. It downgrades to 667MHz which is PC5300. So makes no difference if you go for PC6400 800MHz, the best you get from the SODIMM is PC5300 667MHz.
Least that’s how I interpret it.
Are you sure the memory that comes with the NC10 is PC6400?

You can’t ask for more really. 🙂As to weather having 2Gigs makes much difference…

yes i have my nc10 memory module in front of me its labelled pc2-6400s-666, the part number is M470T2864QZ3-CF7, samsung provide the specs for this memory here:

MemberInteresting. Wonder why people recommend, and claim Samsung have recommended, PC5300!?
However from the label PC2-6400S-666 would suggest its only running at 666 anyway. So still doesn’t make a difference whether you put 800 or 667MHz modules in.

Correct, the RAM runs at the slower speed in the NC10, even if it’s rated to run faster. Some NC10’s came with the faster RAM modules, but it shouldn’t make any difference. It may be that not so many of the slower RAM modules are being produced anymore so their price had risen. At that point it may be cheaper for Samsung to put the faster RAM module in the NC10 even if it runs the same as the slower one.
