Ok, here’s the deal. I put my movies on my NC10 and now I want to have them organized i.e I want info about the movie, picture of the cover etc. etc. Much like Media Center in Vista Premium + the My Movies plug-in (http://www.mymovies.dk)
From this program I would like to be able to browse through all the movies, sort them for like Comedy/Drama/Sci-Fi etc. and start playing the movie when I have decided.
I have not yet found such a program for Windows XP – any tips?
February 20, 2009 at 11:27 am #184509AlfiharParticipantHave you tried XBMC, I use a derivative of it called Plex on my home computer, however you will need to rename your files so it can automatically get info/pictures.
February 20, 2009 at 11:46 am #184504FreddyMember/me is smiling! 🙂 Thank you Alfihar, this was exactly what I was looking for! 🙂

In what way (skipping, quality etc…)?
What type of files (codec + container)?I haven’t used XBMC on my NC10, though I’ve found Plex works well on my desktop. I haven’t noticed any quality issues and my processors usage was not that high during playback. I would expect it to work fine for playing back standard definition videos on the NC10, with high definition I’d expect the overhead to be too much though.
February 21, 2009 at 10:31 am #184511deadkennyMemberI can highly recommend MediaPortal. Designed to be a free alternative to Media Center, and very popular. Not sure if it does exactly what you want but there are many plugins which might do the job. Open source and of course entirely free.

Complement it with the K-Lite codec pack and CoreAVC for AVC, MKV stuff etc.
Hooked up to an HDTV it works great. I use a wireless keyboard/mouse to drive it from the sofa.
February 22, 2009 at 10:45 pm #184505FreddyMemberI didn’t like the built-in player either so I changed to a version of XBMC that lets you use another player so now I can get info about all my movies + start playing them with Media Player Classic.
Too bad there isn’t any Hulu support in XBMC any longer, hopefully it will start working again when someone finds a fix.
Going to try out Media Portal also and see how it works.

February 24, 2009 at 7:45 am #184508edjexMemberxbmc works great on the nc10. video playback is very smooth. HD stuff won’t play though.
February 24, 2009 at 10:44 am #184506FreddyMemberThere is a build from someone calles “jester”, you can find it using Google and with that build you can use any player and get HD-content to play well also.
You have to create a file called advancedsettings.xml that points to your media player. Any questions – just ask!
I have now tried both XBMC and Media Portal and I’ve found that the XBMC is somewhat better especially regarding finding the correct info about movies.
February 25, 2009 at 10:05 am #184512deadkennyMemberWhat’s the “footprint” of XBMC like? I’ve not tried it but looks a bit more glossy to me and wondered if that means it installs more bloat. Got turned off at the mention of visualisations as I feel they are totally pointless and waste resources.
Has the advantage of being cross platform though.
February 26, 2009 at 12:05 am #184507FreddyMemberExtremely small footprint and if you use an externalplayer like me and only use XBMC to organize your movies then when you start the player XBMC goes into sleep mode using no resources at all.
