FYI, CNET (US) finally got around to posting a review of the NC10, and, IMHO, it misses the boat. I would encourage members of this board to post reviews, both positive and negative, about the NC10.

For years CNET have been ridiculously bad at their reviews, with lacklustre scores for best in class devices, and high scores for whatever was “in†at the time.December 11, 2008 at 3:49 pm #174817SideburntMemberseems odd they harp on about how average the nc10 is, then proceed to tell you about its excellent battery life, and benchmark scores, average would suggest a run of the mill bunch of scores, not top end.

December 11, 2008 at 4:05 pm #174792jezMemberYeah I noticed this too. I considered blogging about it.
Quote:News just in, netbook rated: Average!I suppose in one respect – they are right. The NC10 has nothing that other netbooks don’t have. But the key here is that it puts them all together in one place, in the right way and at the right price. And thats what makes it stand out. I think it’s easy to see why people might not spot that.
December 11, 2008 at 4:18 pm #174796RsaeireMemberTo be honest Jez, you’re being too kind. How come practically every other online review site that reviewed the NC10 gave it top marks, but one of the largest sites could not?
The NC10 may not have an express card slot, 802.11n or a must have feature that some of the other netbooks have, but you’re right when you say “it puts them all together in one placeâ€. The NC10 does everything superbly and that is why we are all here talking about our pride and joy.
December 11, 2008 at 6:43 pm #174811PsychNC10MemberI saw a guy with an Acer aspire in doodo brown with red fake metallic accents that looked awful and very poorly made.
Aside from offering features, the NC10 feels and looks like quality

[/quote1229028540]Having sent back my Aspire one with the same specs as this Samsung, there is NO comparison! Differences include (and this is just a top of my head list):
-NOISY fan on Acer
-Fan vented ONLY on bottom
-Acers ONLY vent on bottom is matchbook size and gets VERY hot, burns my lap, Samsung is COOL & silent, period.
-If you think the screen size is not much different, live with each a week and ask yourself again!
-Keyboard difference is simply night and day!
-Speakers better on Samsung (they ALL suck however)
-Matte anti glare screen on Samsung so I can use it outside.
-Build quality=NO comparison, Samsung better
-NON gloss finish on Samsung=easy to grasp & no prints
-Batter life vastly better on Samsung
-Included software on Samsung that was nonexistent on Acer.
-At least we get some type of included cover/bag for the Samsung
-Check the JOKE of a website for Acer compared to Samsung
-Call Acer tech support, then call Samsung and you tell ME who you wish for when in trouble. I DARE you……
-The screen is so much better on Samsung, I never even had to change Windows fonts to be able to read. Spent 2 days fiddling with my Aspire One so I could clearly SEE. Huge difference.
-Details, details. EVERY place I look, this Samsung sings with attention to detail. My Aspire was, well….UNINSPIRING! (SORRY)Now for me, the look, the touch, the feel, the “experience” between the Samsung and Acer is simply night & day.Possibly more so for me because I am old and disabled but I don’t think so. I still loved my Aspire One and have no ill feelings for it or any other brand. Had a 10 inch Asus 1000 HA on order when I stumbled upon the existence of this Samsung and switched my order. They are all probably wonderful or at least adequate for intended purpose. I just have a bit of a love affair going on with this Samsung at the moment which disturbs me as I am a HP computer fan and a Sony TV fan. I usually HATE Samsung and all things Korean.
I am so ashamed….But HAPPY!
December 11, 2008 at 9:14 pm #174800hefMemberhow come the eee 1000 demonstrates significantly longer battery life in their video test but nobody else has reported such a difference before?
im wary of cnet’s reviews..

There was an article that demonstrated how illogical and misleading CNET’s reviews are, but for the life of me I cannot find it. It weighed statistics of reviews over a certain time period and went into detail as how CNET average out the majority of items, never giving an item a very low score, and giving certain items from certain manufacturers high points most of the time.December 11, 2008 at 10:59 pm #174799FreddyMemberRidiculously bad review, not only is it incorrect in the statement that the Asus 1000 should have longer battery life, they do not include the Asus 1000 i the comparative battery test.
And last but not least: They call the NC10 “average” in the Netbook category 😉 Ridiculous.

December 12, 2008 at 12:51 am #174798BeckyMemberIt’s the “bland design” comment that gets me – how can anyone describe the NC10 as bland? Do they want swirly floral patterns on it or something?
December 12, 2008 at 7:12 am #174821culebracutMemberGenerally I’m OK with the CNET reviews, except when they come from Dan Ackerman. He grew up in New York City and clearly favors style over substance. If you watch his video reviews he come across as ‘one hip cat’. What impresses me with the NC10 is the build quality and attention to detail, something that is easy to miss for the ‘over’ trained eye.
December 12, 2008 at 9:03 am #174807grantmasteMemberI stopped reading CNET reviews a few years ago. I guess they still haven’t changed.
December 13, 2008 at 3:13 pm #174808commoMemberI went ahead and posted my review at CNET . I have seen other reviews that I believe came from forum members as well. I saw the word “Sammy” mentioned in one LOL. We should all just post our honest reviews of this netbook and maybe Dan Ankerman will post a follow up review after he gets over how nice the HP looks which I admit was also pulling me towards purchasing it as well. It’s not until you get over that, that you will notice the shortcomings the HP has over the Samsung.
